any suggestions?

When I moved I stuck my cannas in the garden bed in front of the house. I have also put a lot of Daylilies in closer to the front. The bed does not get sun till afternoon even in summer as it's at the south side of the 'L' and faces west, and gets the sea breezes. Any suggestions as to what I could put in with them? I have just dug out some winter Iris and have 3 huge gaps. I could move some of them to the back where there is a sunny bed along the fence. But what could I replace them with? I do not want shrubs that would provide cover but the windows are not at ground level.
