Well, I suppopse it is possible to plant it in a container, but I personally wouldn't. If you did you would have to find a deep pot, as Lupin roots can really go down deep (I know, I just had to move one, lol!). And if you did manage to get it to grow well in a pot, it will get very unattractive after (and sometimes during, if mildew is a factor where you live) it blooms. Thats why I try to tuck my Lupine behind other plants that will hide it to some degree afterwards. CMK

Those were my much-anticipated reward for surviving a low of 19 degrees below zero and being buried under 8 ft. of snow last winter. February... my neighbor very delicately broke the 5 ft. icicles off the gutters. May Here's how much snow was on my front lawn (and my roof): I practically fell to my knees and wept at sight of the first crocus...

lizzy, you could get a flower stalk or two the first year from a group of seedlings but not likely - they need substantial roots before they perform. Please don't try to rush them along by overfeeding though, you'll be happier longer with healthy and sturdy plants, growing at their own rate. Lupine are so prone to aphids and mildew here, I can't imagine wanting to turn up the dial on tender new growth outside their own internal calendar.

deanna, I would imagine your Russell Lupin seed has been selected from the best of the best over the years, better growth habit and better flower form etc. The seed I have came from plants found still growing at the original sight where Mr. Russell did his hybridizing, I think in the 30's. I love growing things that have a history or story to go with them. Annette
