WANTED: coloured frangipani cuttings north Bris

cutting back some of my frannies and wondered if anyone would like some. I have reds, oranges, lemons, tri/bi colours.

Ahh I've been looking for orange for such a long time! I'm on the Southside and finally found a red Fangipani on council land this morning!! So I snapped a branch off :) Do you still have the orange available? I can trade with you I have many broms, tomato plants, greek basil, etc. Or if your looking for something else just ask :)

hi, nearly had a fit when I saw your reply.... because I cut them all back yesterday afternoon and they went out with the rubbish this morning....EXCEPT THE ORANGE!!! for some reason yesterday, I just didn't do that one. The Hand of Fate moves in mysterious ways!!!!!!! How far southside are you? I'm in Petrie, about as north as you can get and still be in Brisbane :):):) I am fond of Broms. cheers Annie

Hi Caz. IÂm sorry to hear you have been victimized by such selfish and immoral people. This is why many people donÂt allow others to see their gardens or greenhouses. A few years back I had a common inexpensive plant with a great deal of sentimental value stolen off my front porch while it was in full bloom. It didnÂt cost much to replace the plant, but no value can be placed on what the original plant meant to me. I think many people with only a casual interest in horticulture donÂt understand how attached many plant lovers become to specific plants. On to your questions. If you cut the plant, the stump will grow new branches for the poachers to steal in the future. Why not dig up the whole plant and transplant it? Assuming you are able to dig the plant up, it will reroot, and given time and freedom from poachers may grow again into a balanced plant. Just make sure the new site has great drainage. Bill (togodad) has posted pictures on this forum showing how to provide support for large plants until they can stand on their own. If you do cut the plant, do not seal the bottom of the cutting. A straight or diagonal cutting are both fine; a diagonal cut will provide a larger surface for roots to emerge from. Seal or place something above the stump to keep it dry and protect it from rot and hope the young branches that emerge will not attract attention for a few years. STOP THE PRESSES! As I reread what I just wrote, I think the best solution would be to cut the branch and then dig up the stump and root it in a very large pot as if it were a giant center cutting. Philip

wow...thanks for that link. i'll give it a good reading... we've had a pityful summer, true. barely breaking 25 degrees. nothing short of lacklustre, but anyway... i posted the same post on the american aspect of this site, under the 'plumeria' section, and a guy posted back this clever technique which shows if your frangipani cutting is on the way out. he explains that if you prick the cutting down at the bottom, near the 'cut', it should bleed white sap. if it doesn't keep pricking all the way up the cutting until you find a spot where it bleeds. here is where you re-cut the cutting, and allow it do dry out again...i have two cuttings that are kinda squishy when i squeeze them, and i'm pretty much bracing myself for the worst. these cuttings however bleed down the bottom of the cutting. they don't bleed all that viscously, but they bleed. i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for a 'resurrection', if possible... heh...i have been taking photos of the frangis' growing progress. i doubt they would make anything other than 'quaint' reading/viewing matter, as they are really small and nothing too special looking. i guess they could serve as "you can grow frangipanis in melbourne too!" confirmation photos or something...heh. thanks for the tips, mm...

Thanks everyone for your input but having lived in Melbourne for 45 years believe me I know all about the weather. Sorry Lorraine if we were coming via that way I would pop in with one or two or three for you and all different colours. Pepino I dont want to bring fruit or vegetables across the border. I have posted down so many kilo's of plants the past year free to our GW Members so whats the difference with road travel by Aust Post and road travel by us. I have tried to find out before about it but your DPI web site does not help much. Having traveled the NSW/VIC border many times in my youth and sitting by the border eating a tin of ham so they would not bin it ( they said ) and seeing them dispose of a small amount of fruit that was then, this is now last time I went through there was no one on the border at all just a bin with a sign on it saying more or less dump your fruit before you go across the border But no sign saying please dispose of Frangipani cuttings. MM.

I think that's just about the best news I've had all week :), I'm at Moorooka, near where Evans Rd meets Beaudesert Rd. Talk about opposite ends of Bris lol I've got plenty of Broms, any colours in particular you were looking for? My miniatures, mediums and large have just had plenty of pups, just waiting on the giants now :)

Hi, I've put a photo of it in the Gallery. How did you want to get them? several options...you could come here (and you could see what else I have!!) or I could post them or do you ever come into the Valley on a Saturday for the markets? 'cos I actually work in the Valley and I start work this Saturday at 3pm. I could meet you somewhere and just hand them over. As for Broms, I love the different varieties of Queens Tears you can get. Haven't a clue what the real name is, I'm afraid.
PS another one that I'm about to cut back is Singapore White. It's the one that doesn't lose its leaves (or not as much!) and is a dead white with small yellow centre.
