They don't have Rain Parade any more, as I scrolled through their tulips. I've bought them 2 different years. The fringed ones usually don't come back but this one is in a bed facing south. The pretty golden color faded to off white. I'm really sorry they don't have those. They have an 800#. Maybe you could call them and ask what they have that might be comparable. These naturalize, and I would think those of similar colors and shapes would as well. I think they are Darwin and Triumph so maybe you can make your own mix. I don't see a good red there tho. I kind of like the Purple Moon or Blue Moon collection, then fill in with others. Miserable rainy cold but more bloomed and they were glorious. Good luck.

Err, Burgess DID list the scientific name. I have a big mea culpa here. Blame it on my inexperience. Hairmetal, it is indeed that tree, a 'pink magnolia.' I would NEVER have considered it to have been a magnolia. If you've ever been down here we have 'real' magnolias (Magnolia grandiflora) EVERYWHERE. It's Mississippi's state tree and is on their vehicle license plates, but it's just as common here (actually have no idea how common it is in Miss, presumably the same, at least the southern half of the state). So when this self-identified amateur thinks of magnolia, that and only that comes to mind. Everyone I know calls the pink magnolia a tulip tree. Granted, I am the one and only person interested in trees and gardening in my circle of acquaintances. I have even seen the proper tulip tree, and have never had cause to call it anything at all. It is DEFINITELY a tree I have no interest in planting. I have heard, though, that some butterflie's caterpillars use it as a host (food) plant. Do y'all know which butterflies, offhand? Too bad... I've always found the Dutch tulip mania and bust fascinating. The Turks had one too about a hundred years later.

Where I live is covered up with tulips, and those that escape the loggers can get very tall. The branches are brittle, summer thunderstorms usually bring down limbs, but the trees themselves are very wind firm. I don't think I've ever seen one uprooted. The trees are rapid growing even into old age, trees that have lost their tops replace them rapidly. But crowns that have been removed by man or nature still tend to be poorly attached and may continue to suffer from storm damage. Why temp fate? If you are worried about the trees maybe have them removed, topping is NEVER a good thing.
