OK, I get the idea. (Sorry if it has taken me so long). This is the smallest pot I can find, perhaps apart from putting it in an egg-cup! The pot is plastic, drains very well, and less than 3 inches diameter (7 cm) at the top. It now has a few pieces of bark (about half of the contents of the terracotta pot) and some small pebbles. I have tried to make sure it all stays in, pressing it down gently, though the roots are quite springy. I don't think I can go smaller without leaving out all bark and stones completely! I gave the bark a good soaking before repotting. After the traumatic double-repotting should I fertilise or not? And how often should I water it? Just treat it as normal, or with special care? I am very conscious of this plant not liking its roots to be disturbed! Here is a link that might be useful:

Carol, you are right, I was thinking that the linearifolia meant that it only has single line-like leafs. Given a little more time to grow the ternite and perhaps even biternate (I had to looks those up) condition of the foliage would be much more apparent. Looking closer at my photo I see that the smaller leaves could easily be attached to the larger leaves. I will have to go back and see if I can can get a series of shots at different stages. Would leaflets be the proper term or is that reserved for compound leaves? That link you provided helped, especially with the first photo of a newly emerged plant. These just pop out of the ground a-bloomin! Terrestrial man, I am going to have to save that southern idaho site as a favorite. I like that vascular plants of Utah site as well and use it often. I just wish they had photos on that site rather than providing links. Another great site that I came across while researching Dicentra uniflora is the UVSC virtual herbarium. Did anyone follow up with a photo of this? I didn't read this thread or all of the others in detail... I saw this at Strybing yesterday, took a picture, and just now went looking for info. This is near the main entrance and the plant shop. Sorry the picture's not the best, but I think you get the point.

I've got two forms of dichlamys from Robin, and the scarlet one bloomed well for me. The red one hasn't bloomed yet. I get the feeling it is not as hardy as microphylla, to which it is related. It has bracts that remind me of the cardinalis form of fulgens, and would not be surprised if it is closely related to that one also. It looks to me to be somewhat of a ground cover, and likes sun, but with access to water. It was very thirsty during the hot dry summer of 2007 and responded well to repotting and fertilization. It bloomed well last year. You are in a good location to test it.
