I tried looking up both "Urtica nummulariifolia" and "Pilea nummulariifolia" in some of the larger herbal references I have and found nothing. But that is not surprising. There are thousands and thousands of medicinal plants worldwide. And each area in the world and each people with their own "materia medica," what they know and use for healing. There are many specific ethnobotanical references that the cover the specific herbal traditions of a particular people or area that include plants and herbal uses that don't make the more common herbal references. So just because I couldn't find a use for a specific plant doesn't mean that it isn't used. It might be from an herbal tradition that didn't make the references I used. That said, however, I would take a much safer approach. Herbs can have powerful actions and can have side-effects as well as interacting with other medications and/or health conditions. If you wish to pursue herbal treatments, please do. But do it in a safe manner. There are herbalists and Naturopaths closer to home that you can see, discuss your medical history, and work with for herbal treatments. There are many herbs used in asthma treatments that are well-known and commonly used by herbalists. And a very strong agreement from me that common names are useless! FataMorgana

Right this minute, for me, RAIN or the lack of it, is about as profane as I can get, honestly. I'm so frustrated with this weather, and today's tiny little 4-second shower just made it worse. I was being truly profane all over the place around here. Shaking my fist at the sky and giving it what-for at the top of my lungs! Of course, the worst part is that in a few weeks, it will probably be raining every afternoon for two months, and there will be mold all over the sidewalk, and I'll be so bloomin' sick of the rain, I'll be shrieking imprecations at the sky once again, begging for a sunny day. Brahmi (Bacopa monniera), also called Water Hyssop: Aerial parts are used to treat nervous system disorders such as neuralgia, epilepsy and mental illness, and a wide range of other conditions including indigestion, ulcers, constipation, asthma and bronchitis, even infertility. The expressed juice mixed with oil is used as a rub for arthritic pain. May be useful in improving mental function, memory and concentration and reduces learning time. Shows potent anti-tumour and anti-cancer activity. Usual Dosage: 40mg per kg of body weight per day of tincture or extract. You can use it as a tea - for a 10yo, give about half a cup per day, or as advised by a qualified herbalist. Please note: Pennywort, sometimes called Gotu Kola (Centella asiata, or Hydrocotyle asiata) is also sometimes called Brahmi. It's also used to improve brain function, but is most commonly used for arthritis and other problems of aging. Sometimes labelled as Arthritis Plant. For adults, 2-3 leaves are recommended to be eaten per day, or used to make a tea. Most specialist herb nurseries should have it, though you may have to get it ordered in. However, Bacopa is often sold as an aquarium plant, so hunt for it in your local pet shop! I grow mine in a pot, and I keep it very moist. Please be careful with it though. If allowed to get into our waterways, it is very destructive to our environment. Both herbs mentioned here are readily available in tablet form. Check the label for correct botanical name if the bottles are labelled 'Brahmi'. Most often, brahmi is called 'Bacopa'.
