i think most fruits are like that, thats what i have found. fruit likes to go right from the fruit immediately to be planted/soaked, not be stored. i've even sensed that it likes a bit of the sugars, and pulp to be planted right in with it in the dirt. it seems to work that way good, and i think theres something to it. i dont have any of the plants you request. but if you are open to other offerings i would be willing to offer some seeds in trade for any of those things. or all, a little of each. Here is a link that might be useful: my trade list

Hi Fabio You and Kat did better than me, at the first cold spell my plant died because I did not protect it. I know people up north that successfully grow naranjilla in a greenhouse and fruits after 2 years and they have to do the pollination themselves. So you are on target when you see flowers hand pollinate and good luck! The one fruit that is growing very well is my tamarillo or tree tomato and is supposed to fruit in 2 years so hopefully I get some fruits this season. I planted 2 more this spring. I will send you some fruits when I get them.:) Hi Kathy That is funny that you even remember the name, is not an easy name and is probably not the easiest plant to keep alive. Like with any plant some things make it and some others don't. Silvia

Mine never had that much flavor. Maybe I wasn't letting them get fully ripe. I still like the plant so I will forever grow it even though it hates our heat and humidity. I have one with a few fruit on it but I think they are waiting for spring to ripen up. I keep mine in a temporary greenhouse kept just above freezing, in large containers and then I plant most of them in the garden during the summer.

The problem with a lot of the fruiting plants from the northern part of South America is that they don't have seasonal shifts in day length. It's pretty much 12 hours on and 12 hours off every day of the year. I've tried lots of fruit seeds from my local hispanic market and I can get them to grow but they tend to freak out in the middle of summer. Normal blooming and fruiting happens in spring and fall when the day length is more like what they are used to. The region I saw them being grown in (in Colombia) was high elevation but still not frosty. Around 7,500 feet, nights in the high 40's and days in the high 70's. The only seasonal change was between rainy and dry. You see them in every home's garden but people usually buy them since they are cheap in the market. I have better luck growing them in part sun or half day sun in the summer - other wise treat them like a tomato or eggplant. There has got to be a way to encourage fruit ripening in the fall - maybe snipping off the tips of all the branches and removing all new flowers so that the plant focuses its energy on the fruit that has already formed. If your spineless form develops pear shaped yellow fruit with just a hint of fuzz it is more than likely a fruit called 'cocona' and is usually grown in the shade at lower elevations. If they are orange and fuzzy with coarse hair they are naranjilla. If they are huge and orange and fuzzy they are lulo. I believe all of them are Solanum quitoense, though some taxonomists want to break off lulo and cocona into separate species.
