Yes the green hard to see caterpillars i think are the most common and have damaged my tomato plants a little bit before i caught them. You have to look at every inch of your plant thorougly because they can hide anywere and not be seen. I found a little green worm under my pepper plants leaf one time (not sure what it was) but havent seen them since. I just recently started seeing my tomato plants stems turn hollow so i looked it up and there is a different type of caterpillar that will make entry into the stem of your tomato plant and will eat it from the inside. I had to throw my plant away because it was completely hollow and dead. I also had a watermelon plant which did really good until it started getting infested with melon aphids on the backside of the leaves. I heard that lady bugs are really beneficial for your garden and they say an adult lady bug will eat up to 5000 aphids in its lifetime. I will try this method and will post how it works but i seen someone post about wasps helping with problems in their garden and would like to know more about how the wasps work.

The Bt liquids I have used left no visible residue and worked well on the catepillars I had. I also felt I got better coverage with the spray since you can spray the undersides of leaves but powdering the undersides is ... tricky. I hope that helps. Betsy

I use a BT spray to prevent them but I usually start spraying the leaves and fruit once a week as soon as the plants start setting fruit. The only problem is that the worms have to ingest the BT so they still might bite your tomatoes before they die--I haven't tried using the BT after they are already infested with worms so I'm not sure how well it would work.

It may be tomato pinworm. They look like tiny, segmented worms. They cause damage that sometimes resembles leaf miner damage but other times looks like they've scraped away layers of the leaves, leaving brown, papery areas. Other times, they leave holes like other small caterpillars, etc. Occasionally, they create pockets in leaves in which they hide by "stitching" leaf surfaces together or pleating them. If it's pinworm, cut off any heavily damaged leaves, especially leaves with "pockets" created in them and apply BT regularly to kill future populations. You want to take care of this now before your plants start fruiting, because they burrow into tomato fruit and ruin it.
