i purchased a few at Lowes, and then made a complaint to headquarters for the labelling, there were many with specific variety, but in my haste I chose one with a more generic label, "Rabbiteye Blueberry" and there was a list on the back of 8 varieties to pollinate with. The complaint went to the local store manager, who tracked down the nursery (the nursery decides whats available, not the store..) and found my plant is one of the 8.. They did send this to purchasing & promised to demand proper labelling from the vendors. btw - it's growing well.

For those of you who live in Central FL, Seminole Farm and Nursery does a once a year order in October. Call at the beginning of October to get on the list. I got 50 bare-root strawberry plants for $8.50. They sell them for 15 cents apiece. They will get whatever the strongest variety is that year. Last year it was Sweet Charlie, this year it was Camarosa. They are great robust plants - very big. Plants can stand a fair amount of frost without protection (I got to 23 - no damage). Mine are just starting to put out good berries. This tip is too late for people this year, but now you know for next year=) Other than that, I've only ever seen plants for $2 apiece here in local nurseries. So it is a great deal to know about!

The Lowes in Red Hook is good for standard stuff. One thing that Lowes has that Home Depot doesn't is a "half price" or "dollar" stack. When a plant shows a little distress, rather than throwing it out, they mark it down. I've nursed a few of those dollar plants back into healthy ones. One thing I'd like to start is a "NYC seedling exchange." I've already done this with one member of this forum and it worked out great. We could set a day and a place and exchange what we've got growing. Any takers?
