Torch Ginger

I'm not sure if it's the changing weather patterns or just that some of my plants are maturing, but several of my gingers have flowered for the 1st time ever this year and other plants have flowered much better this year than in previous years.

The Torch Ginger has produced 4 flowers this year, the first time it has flowered for me. One of my Beehive Gingers is also flowering for the first time and it has 6 flowers emerging so far.

The feather just landed there on its own.

Our 'baby' in a reflective mood.

I love pelicans, they are one of my favourite subjects, so couldn't resist taking a photo of this one at the Twin Waters Resort.

My Red Torch Ginger (Etlingera elatior) bloomed

Happy dance for you! Mine is blooming now too, so is E. heiroglyphica. I got my red torch from Bill (Cape Coral) and it bloomed the very next season after I planted it. I love it, I love the brilliant red on the stems of the blooms and the lower stems of the canes. The stalks of my red torch are easily 25+ feet in height. They go up to the ceiling of the greenhouse (20 ft) and then lay over and form a canopy of shade for whatever is under them. If they don;t lay over the way I want I get on a ladder and "arrange" them, LOL.

Hi Gaza, Sexy Pink and Torch Ginger will flower in pot, provided the pot is large enough. However, flowering will be less profuse and less frequent if you are comparing pot culture to those planted to the ground, where more space is given for the rhizome to develop properly.

Hoping it is just unhappy from the cold. My tropicals end up looking very much like that due to the cold weather ( I am more north than you), but once it warms up and and we spring forward and have more light during the day they come back fine.
