It sounds like your Jasmine plant was tagged correctly, the 'Revolutum' is the cultivar (windeaux' statement above, "identical (to) the species, but with larger leaves & more fragrant flowers") is a description of that cultivar. This information was on the Theatrum Botanicum website: "Grows to 20' and is almost tree- or large bush-like in form. Has loose clusters of fragrant 1" yellow flowers sporadically throughout the year. One of the hardiest jasmines; should do fine in most of coastal California. I've seen a tree-like specimen over 12' tall in the Berkeley Botanical Gardens. Tropical Asia." With that in mind, windeuax' statement that his/her plant 'struggled pathetically' as an indoor plant makes perfect sense, as it's considered 'one of the hardiest jasmines'....so it sounds as though it needs a cooler place, (sort of identical to the zones in which it's hardy) during part of the year. Do you have a cool or unheated room or an unheated porch where you could place it during the winter? I have several plants that I grow on my unheated sunporch during the winter months....some are deciduous and some are evergreen.....that I *know* would never tolerate growing in my home during the winter because of their hardiness....if that makes any sense, LOL!? Sort of like trying to grow a Hosta indoors (without the benefit of a cool/cold greenhouse) during the winter...it seems to *need* that 'cold spell' to thrive. So, even though it's considered a 'tropical' plant....if its basic need of that 'cold spell' isn't being met, the plant won't thrive indoors. For example, a plant that *needs* high light to grow indoors isn't getting high light, therefore, it won't thrive, right?

Michelia alba can waft more than a block to my nose when I'm in the vicinity of one. I usually get a better quality fragrance at night. Brugmansia is wonderful in the evenings as well. Their scents aren't unique to evenings, but I mostly notice Dianthus superbus and Dianthus arenarius at night. Their scents are quite different from the clovey fragrance of many carnations. They're almost soapy with a delicious light hard to describe quality. I have some in containers by the door. Jasmine of all sorts is great. The sambac scent probably appeals most to my nose. Citrus is blooming and smells heavenly right now. A few plants that always waft some fragrance for me would be Tagetes lemonii (Mexican marigold) and 'Allen Chickering' Salvia. No matter what time of day, I can smell them when I'm near them. Jay

Lol Mike.. This forum is very addictive for all of us :) I am just controlling myself to jump and buy Brugs after seeing the pics and description of its scent! But once spring comes they are in my list. You will love the angulare jasmine. The plant is so delicate looking and the flowers are so pretty. Out of all the south african varieties I have grown (j.multipartitum, j.tortuosum) this one has the most beautiful flowers. Almost reminds me of the Indian cork tree flower.

Yuu can encourage rooting and make the plant much happier by increasing humidity. It is AMAZING how much faster a plant will root by creating a humidity chamber. Either put the entire pot and plant in a plastic bag and twist-tie or paperclip at top ; or invert a large plastic cup over the top of the plant and pot; or slide a plastic bag over the top of the plant and use some bamboo skewers to hold the bag off of the plant. No direct sunlight during the rooting or you will cook the plant. Good luck! Carol in Jacksonville
