So one doesn't see what their Petunia looks like after a hair cut..lol. Actually, pruning Petunias is a great idea. They're beautiful, frangrant plants, but by July look ugly..I don't like degrading any plant, but the truth is, they look like dead twigs. I dead-head, but it's not enough..I didn't even buy Petunias this spring, even though they're one of my favorite annuals. However, I have a small section in front. When I go shopping, I'll see if they have any left. Now I know what needs doing. Thanks. Mike, Accents plants go fast. In the beginning, my favorite time to order from Accents was autumn. Roots and foliage had he entire summer to grow larger. Nowadays, his plants go fast. Why not drop him a line? Ask if he'll have Aglaia and African Gardenia in this year. Another fine nursery is Almost Eden Plants. His specimens are a little more money, but they're quite large. The last time I checked AE's site, many plants were marked down. Can't hurt to try, you know? WARNING: Ebay is addicting, lol. Once you're on Ebay's home page, type the first name of the plant in the Search Window. To the right is a drop down window. Click on 'home and garden.' Hit Enter. Dave's Garden is another place to check. They don't sell plants, but list people who want and have 'X' plants for sale. Again, it never hurts to try. Dave's also has a section called Garden Watchdog. They list nurseries from A-Z, and feedback for each nursery. There's also a Search button. Type in the name of the plant you're looking for, and up pops several nurseries that 'might' have 'X' plant available.. There's all types of ways locating a plant.. :) Toni

It sounds like your Jasmine plant was tagged correctly, the 'Revolutum' is the cultivar (windeaux' statement above, "identical (to) the species, but with larger leaves & more fragrant flowers") is a description of that cultivar. This information was on the Theatrum Botanicum website: "Grows to 20' and is almost tree- or large bush-like in form. Has loose clusters of fragrant 1" yellow flowers sporadically throughout the year. One of the hardiest jasmines; should do fine in most of coastal California. I've seen a tree-like specimen over 12' tall in the Berkeley Botanical Gardens. Tropical Asia." With that in mind, windeuax' statement that his/her plant 'struggled pathetically' as an indoor plant makes perfect sense, as it's considered 'one of the hardiest jasmines'....so it sounds as though it needs a cooler place, (sort of identical to the zones in which it's hardy) during part of the year. Do you have a cool or unheated room or an unheated porch where you could place it during the winter? I have several plants that I grow on my unheated sunporch during the winter months....some are deciduous and some are evergreen.....that I *know* would never tolerate growing in my home during the winter because of their hardiness....if that makes any sense, LOL!? Sort of like trying to grow a Hosta indoors (without the benefit of a cool/cold greenhouse) during the winter...it seems to *need* that 'cold spell' to thrive. So, even though it's considered a 'tropical' plant....if its basic need of that 'cold spell' isn't being met, the plant won't thrive indoors. For example, a plant that *needs* high light to grow indoors isn't getting high light, therefore, it won't thrive, right?

Hi Leah! You're welcome! I'm using the 5:1:1 mix for my single tuberose that I'm growing in a pot. The leaves don't look that dark green so Kemistry might be right that tuberoses might not like pine bark so much but who knows? My other single tuberoses I'm growing in the ground though the dog tends to trample them when she's chasing after squirrels. :( And yes, I suggest putting your Jasminum molle into a smaller pot and only watering when the soil starts to dry (again a moisture meter is a godsend, takes the guessing out of it). But you can also just look at your leaves as to when the plant needs water. Oh, and of course tilt your pots after watering! ;) Tiaree, I hope you find a MOO! If not you can always order a plant online. :) You might also like 'Belle of India' or 'Mysore Mulli' or 'Grand Duke'. If you do find another jasmine a fun thing to do is pick the fat un-opened flower buds right before they open and float them in a dish of water. The flowers will open up inside and the scent is truly amazing! :) -Robert

Hi guys i live in the Midlands in UK. I bought a cutting back from my house in Andulusia Spain with me and potted it on in small pot and onto a bigger terracotta outdoor pot. I placed it outside against my drain pipe to climb up and cover. it has been in the pot for three years living outdoors in all weather and has completely covered my drain pipe and climbed up and over my roof! it surprisingly has continued to flower beautifully even on snowy frosty days now and has not stopped flowering for over a year even through the snow!! To see the white blooms over winter through my kitchen window has been astonishing to say the least! i fill the bottom of the pot and cover it with straw come end of October and remove end of April. It is incredible. I feed it with Miracle grow during the summer with a watering can like all my other flowering plants during the summer months only. In the pot in summer I place non stop begonia bedding plants , I can fit in about three..which of course I throw out in the fall and replant mid May for bottom of pot cover and lots of flowers where the jasmin does not flower on bottom 12 inches or so. not sure what I am doing correctly??? But clearly something!! I have never pruned it at all and just tie in the tendrils where I want them which is now joining in with a clematis Montana which is planted like 20 feet away up a garden fence. Looks fab with both in bloom right now... good luck ! I am so pleased with mine ...for a change!! Hope it lasts.
