If you have an old stone wall - Lady Hillingdon Climber

We have a very old home with sandstone walls and on either side of our bedroom window I have planted Cl. Lady Hillingdon.

It is a wonderfully elegant rose - so prolific and since it has nodding heads looks gorgeous looking down at you :)

Climbing Lady Hillingdon is one responsible for yellow colour in David Austin's roses of today. I'm glad that you have it and like it, Mary.

The colour just matches the colour of the sandstone so well, beautiful and no thorns in sight. Mary, what is she climbing, hanging on to grow up like that ? Marion

I can only speak to Lavender Lassie. Lavender Lassie only reblooms for me if the winter and winter/spring transition has not been too severe. This past year was the first year since that awful Easter freeze of '07 that she and any of my other established hybrid musks rebloomed. If Lavender Lassie is doing okay, it blooms heavily in the spring and then a little more in the fall, but that is about it. No magic answer on this one.

You might try calling or e-mailing Burling at Burlington roses to see whether she would root one for you. She can root just about anything and if she has a mother plant it's very possible she'll help you out. I know she rooted a bunch of Annie Laurie McDonnell climbing roses (I have one of them) for interested buyers and had a waiting list for this rose before too long. The same thing could happen with the very desirable Cl. Lady Hillingdon. Judging by the size of the one described by Rogue Valley Nursery, I have the feeling that they have the climbing one too. Thank you, York Rose, You are right. A neighbor's tree shaded my rose, but the tree was taken down recently and the rose bloomed like crazy this month. I hope it will be happier now. Thanks, Sherry! Rebar-good idea. I certainly need something strong. I may try that. Hopefully I can do it in a fairly unobtrusive way. Another option is to attempt to transplant the rose in the fall to the other side of the wall so that it will drape on the wall (instead of away from the wall) and have the support of the wall. That's where it should have been planted in the first place. I'd hate to kill it in the process, though. It's large!

Cl Lady Hillingdon or Reve d'Or?

Cl. Lady Hillingdon did beautifully in a previous also warm/hot garden and I have a young plant now which is bushy pretty much from the ground up, and I also seem to remember my previous one being bushier than the Reve d'Or that I had until recently. It was against a hot wall and was slowly perishing, but I would say it had a more open spreading habit than Cl. Lady Hillingdon. I love the colors on both but I would say Reve d'Or has a more subtle, muted shade.

Glad you like it :) I should have mentioned that it is a tea rose. Comes also in the bush form. Marion, we string wires on toggle bolts at inervals up the wall- hardly see them and tie the canes on the outside of these. Cheers, Mary

What a beauty! I'm struggling to find the best position for my LH which has outgrown her 40cm pot...it really is an excellent focal or specimen plant. Lovely pic...thanks varmi

Anyone had any experience of this rose - the only 2 miniatures I ever planted never got to flower; the possums got every single lovely yummy new bud.

And of course, what complements the colour of the blooms, is the plum coloured stems. A really lovely Tea. Perhaps a little devoid of foliage as a climber? Good colour.
