i have heeeeeaps of snails in my garden, just like every one i guess......i collected a 4 litre container of the blasted things the other day!!! anyways, i have frogs in my garden and they are so cute, i dont want to kill them off with the snail pellets, just wondering if they are safe to use around frogs?? or any other suggestions on how to get rid of the snails without harming the frogs...thanks in advance
I am afraid that the pellets will harm frogs and other animals (some eat poisoned snails). I do the "bucket" thing at 5am but if you are desperate use the beer method (place a plastic container with beer at soil level, snails will get drunk and drown).
Yes don't mess with your ecological balance,if you can help it. Poisons can affect things you didn't intend to harm.If you have frogs in your garden, you are doing OK. If you already have grogs in your garden, it may be that you have previously tried, but overdone, the beer traps. But I believe the frogs will recover. (That WAS intended as a light-hearted joke, in case anyone thinks I'm taking the mickey, I'm not) I still think hand collection of snails is most efficient and once the buckets- full diminish, you know you are winning. I thought we were pretty well free of them forever but the lizards have moved on and after a sudden few days of drizzly weather, I have found heaps among the broms and bulbs.
grogs and smails? :) I had to mention it, in particular due to your appropriate email address. ----- My comment is made all in good fun of course. I have those days too!!
You can of course, use grog to kill snails. I don't know whether grog kills frogs though. Just place some beer in a sunken margarine container, and watch the smails gettin' inner zhe grog.....
