Hi Marion-Is that a sepal or a leaf sticking up behind the bud?If the buds don't have long sepals that stick up past the bud then it is Cecille-if it has then it is Bloomfield Abundance aka "Spray Cecile Brunner" which is a large shrub.
I don't think you can tell from the buds whether you have the bush or climbing form of Cecille though.Time will tell.
As for the pest eating your leaves-don't worry about it-a harmless little cutie called a leafcutter bee.Don't begrudge them a few leaf segments for their nests.:)

Well I wish the only things eating my rose leaves were leafcutter bees,
Must to my discust I found three huge brown caterpillars on some of the buds this morning.
I am looking forward to a pic as when I was down in Melbourne I bought my sister the CB Climber.
As I want to see what the flowers look like all I know is she tell me they are light pink.

Sandie, you've got it wrong way around. Spray Cecile Brunner aka Bloomfield Abundance (which it ain't, in any manner or form). The bud looks like the genuine Cecile. The habit of growth will eventually answer whether bush or climber.

Having a second look, I'll reserve judgement on Cecile or Spray Cecile. Hadn't noticed that the sepals do extend above the bud quite a way. Wait and see.

firstly, I am sorry the pictures are a bit blurry, we have a strong wind blowing today.
I haven't chipped in the "horse's doovers" yet either, we are too busy collecting more for the rest of the gardens, thank goodness for a family of Pony Clubbers who live nearby. eh !!!
Now this little plant, I am not sure whether I want a bush or a climber.
The bud has 3 short sepals and one long one, there are more buds coming.
The whole plant looks as though it has decided to get a good go on at last and is shooting out all over the place, thogh still on the small side after being in a pot for a few months, seems to love the ground we have built up.
The shade cloth is to break down the very hot north westerly winds we have been getting .

With the blooms, there is no difference, climbing or bush. The ident of Spray Cecile is in the long sepals, reaching well above the bud. I've not seen this from Cecile, not even one sepal. The growth is looking not like the bush Cecile.

From your last photo showing the complete plant it looks just the same as the Spray Cecile which we grow here.This same photo shows a fairly vigorous and lanky young plant which does not resemble the more compact Cecile.B bush form.I am not sure how to go the next step and distinguish the spray version from the climber at least apart from waiting too observe the growth habit for a little longer.There are some reasonably mature(9-10 years) spray ceciles'on our neighbours property.They have never been hard pruned and tend to stay around 4 foot wide by 5 foot high.In wetter districts I've seen them 7 foot high with hard pruning every year.If it was me I'd probably hold back on the climber support until some watershoots arise which well exceed the above mentioned dimensions.Maybe Lozza knows of some other way to tell apart spray C. fom climber C..I suppose it would be handy if you could build your support earlier and without being attacked by thorn wielding, octopus tentacles.
