Acmena Smithii on rocky ground

Hi all,

I recently took delivery of 4 advanced Acmena Smithii lilly pillies for screening purposes.

The position I have in mind is naturally rocky and sloping with Sydney sandstone. I don't have to dig far to strike immovable rock about 50 cm under the topsoil at the particular location it needs to grow.

Will this stunt the growth of the tree excessively? Or will the roots scramble around the rock shelf and then down?

Its planted next to some others which are in deeper soil about a metre away (our block slopes) - will there be much difference in the growth and size of the one in shallower soil as compared to the one in deeper soil?

I figure that being a native that is accustomed to this situation, it won't be too adversly affected - but it would be nice to know for sure.
