I let a bunch of volunteer tomatoes stay, too. I had to resow my toms due to container failure, and they didn't look too promising at first, so I didn't want to pull all the volunteers. Now they are all the same size and looking beautiful. Don't know which is more tasty....maybe the volunteers are a different variety...or did you WS the same types as you grew last year? Linda

Can't speak to growing strawberries, but would just like to point out that Ahappy Camper is in zone 10, so December is probably more "spring like" than April or May where they are at. I'm planning on putting in a large patch of strawberries this coming year and came upon this site while researching the best way to grow them. I am really looking forward to it filling out rouge. Great one for people that do not have 4-5' to devote to a plant. It should have a 2-3' spread. Yours might be R. aescuifolia.
