Have planted 6-7 of Martin's garlic varieties, catawissa onion, and a pearl walking-onion. Also am doing a new Wisconsin 55 tomato, and black cherry tomato from Martin. (You'll love his posts in the Allium forum!) I have about a hundred kinds of food & flower seed packets that are new to me, most to get seeded in the next few weeks. I have 3 kinds of early cucumber started already - spacemaster, a sweet slicing cuke, and a pickle cuke. I'v only grown lemon cukes so far - and will again - but am eager to try new varieties of something so easy. Greek Salad & Tatziki anyone? Thai basil has sprouted so I'll do savory stir-fry too. Am trying some purple sweet peppers, since I had my first ever year of success last year with Anaheims and Jalapeno from seed. Several are still alive - after being dug & moved indoors last October. They are looking spindly and weak now, but in my imagination: they can't wait to get back outside, leaf out & get producing again! (The eggplant didn't make it, rats, but I've got a couple kinds of seed to get started ASAP) A couple of the wintered-over Peppers are out on the back porch now - to begin hardening off for their next palnting, since we're having a very pleasant early spring in Oregon. I have several interesting squashes to seed - and am glad a neighbor, and another newbie who I'm helping get started in food growing have both has allowed me to use their space - so I can go nuts growing all this stuff! I look forward to receiving a box of dahlia tubers froma gardenWebber - a neighbor across the street has agreed to let me plant her whole front yard with them so all can enjoy about a dozen I've never brefore grown. I'll help her with cutting and mulching to keep 'em going, as this neighbor says she is new to growing flowers - but is amazing with veggies. Am happy about some good garden trades so far this spring - got a variagated sage, and 2 passion fruit vines are tucked in. Finally planted some stuff from Swaps last September. Amazing what can survive ice and drought in plastic pots! Some golden hops and sweet peas will hoepfully compete happy for fence climbing space. Lots more is new to my little garden this year - and Lord Help Me - I'm about to do an order from 4 Seasons! (Who can resist a deal on Asparagus and loads of Greek Windflowers, anyway?) Enjoyed reading all your plant scores - and have never even heard of some of those! Maybe next year... Let us know how yours turn out - and post pix!

I'm actually going to buy a grafted pantin mamey(Picking season: July-August), a carrie mango, diamond river longan, and atemoya. I already have a kent, valencia pride, and a glenn mango, pace mamey(Picking season: March-April, two sugar apple/sweetsop seedlings, carrie mango seedling, pantin mamey seedling, manzano banana, blue java banana(blue java not yet rooting, so lets see if it makes it)and passion fruit(just beginning to root). Today I'll go to Lowes and buy a Brogdon or a Russell avocado, depending on what's still available. In the front yard, I'll have the seedling carrie, seedling mamey and the ornamental banana.

I've started my first proper garden after years of living in smaller places. I'm currently growing: Cape Gooseberry (basically a weed in my garden) Pomegranate Blackberries (don't know the type) White, weeping mulberry (found on the property) Litchi / Lychee (nursery didn't label the type) Avocado (Fuerte & have been advised to get a Haas too) Apricot (Cape Early, a South African cultivar) Apple (Early Red one & looking for a tart, green pollinator/pie apple) Eureka lemon Unidentified dwarf lemon (found on property) Shaddock pomelo, red flesh Peach (Oom Sarel, a large South African cultivar) Two fruits that I'm growing, but I've never tasted before: - Miracle Fruit (3 seedlings about 20cm, under glass & one recently planted outside). I've served the pills for a party. - Pepino Got a whole of herbs, peppers and veggies too. I'm looking to replace granadilla / passion fruit and mangoes that I've grown before. I don't care for the taste of granadilla but I love the Passion flowers. I live north of Johannesburg in South Africa & it's spring time here. I want to grow some of the traditional fruit trees I grew up with, like delicious sweet Marula (sclerocarya birrea). Marula makes a small, sweet fruit that you can eat fresh when it turns yellow, can ferment into a traditional beer and leaves a hard seed with a sweet nut. Other traditional trees are Milk plum (Englerophytum magalismontanum) & Moepel (Mimusops zeyheri)...I don't know it's English name but I see it's part of the Sapoteceae genus.

Hello Friends, Thanks for all the nice compliments. Zands - The Satsuma is in what is probably a 20 gallon pot. It has been in there a couple of years so I am not so sure of the Potting Mix. I do fertilize with a slow release Osmocote type fertilizer every 3 months and the occasional Iron Drench. It is a great little tree and the fruit is Great. As for the Strawberry Guava, it wasn't as hard to take out as I thought and we got it out with the root ball relatively intact. We put it into what is approximately a 30 gallon pot. It dropped some leaves initially but it has since bounced back and is doing great. It has been about 1 month since transplanting and it is still alive so I think it should be okay. esco_socal - Thanks Again, The Sapodilla was actually outside. It did okay outside the first year, it just didn't grow any. Then the 2nd year, is when it almost died. Then it bounced back and started to grow nicely, still outside, and that's when I put it into the Greenhouse and it did even better. melikeeatplants - I took out the Strawberry Guava because I want to sell it. It had been in the ground for over 20 years. Since space is such a huge commodity, and it is not one of my favorite fruits, it had to go. It actually produces like crazy, and the fruits are big and good tasting, it's just that I would rather have a Mango or Lychee tree in its place. As far as how it compares to true guavas, I guess it is kind of similar in texture to some, but I am not so sure as far as taste since there are so many different varieties of Guavas out there. Thanks Again, Jacob
