Oh, Hoov! You're funny! Remember when they were taking the lead out of gasoline? The party line was gas would be cheaper because they wouldn't have to add lead. Once it became the standard, it was more expensive because they had to REMOVE the lead. I bet, if they cared enough to address the issue, it would result in higher prices. The 75 cent price is for the Knock Out pots, the special Point of Purchase advertising ones which are specifically printed to say "Knock Out" on them, like the pink Flower Carpet pots. Knock Outs are priced "C" prices in the list above where you saw the 75 cent price, so they run (for bare root) between $6.10 and $4.70 each depending upon how many you order for Grade 1 plants. Grade 1.5 range between $5 and $3.75 depending upon quantity, PLUS the cost of the POP pots. Notice though, these are for REAL bare roots with no body bags or saw dust around the roots. Those prices are on the other price list with the potted rose prices. Kim

Thank you, everyone, for the input. I don't know that I have a preference about rootstock on grafted roses--I don't have any experience with different ones to base an opinion on. However, I have a particular reason why I might want grafted roses this time--need the extra vigor at the beginning to get them going. My garden will be on the citywide garden tour in June, so I want these roses to get growing as quickly as possible. Otherwise, I have no objection to own-root. Not sure I want to order from Hortico unless necessary. Too many posters have complained about getting the wrong rose from them. Definitely do not want a bitty one from Heirloom under the circumstances. Looks like Regan Nursery is fine unless I find a better source. Does anyone know if multiflora rootstock is better in Kansas than Dr. Huey would be? Beth, thank you for reminding me of the alternate name for Cherry Parfait. I had forgotten that. Diane, I will check out Garden Valley Ranch tonight. Seems to me I remember some good things being said about them. mgleason56, let me know if you find out more about the Tulsa operation. I have to say that White Flower Farm's plant prices are terrible, too, as are Wayside Garden's prices. I just looked at Wayside today, and $20 for a single coneflower plant is pretty rich. I remember Bluestone Perennials having pretty good prices, but I haven't ordered from there in a while. There are some excellent nurseries and farm stores around here, and that's where I buy my plants and as many roses as possible. The only way I would pay $45 for a rose is if it were impossible to find it anywhere else, and I was obsessed with that particular rose. That hasn't happened yet. The $45 Austin price is Canadian dollars isn't it, oldrosarian? So at least that would be a little less in US dollars. Diane

Yes, Marlorena, I recall reading somewhere that NRS recommendations were particularly welcomed by gardeners in the PNW, since the climates are supposedly so similar. Curdle, sometime you should read old rose descriptions from Samuel McGredy. EVERY of his roses lavished with praise, each one the very best rose ever raised... he got away with it, because it seemed that he really was enamored of these roses, and felt the praise was truly justified.
