Thats fantastic Alison, and better still that you grew it from a seed.
One plant I have never grown, I do believe it grows tall do you have to stake it.
Or will it stay up by itself , just curious thats all.

Hello all but to Bev amd MM well this is tub grown and has been hacked down a bit. I think they are forgiving in growth but a bit fragile I haven't needed to stake but strong winds will mess them around. Nothing as bad as the insects though they are HEAVEN to loopers and grasshoppers and one particular large lady-bird thing which only targets them. Really "Trippy" insects, eh?

My nusery at jindalee is selling all sorts of colours and doubles. The purple one i want has deep purple with white. They are awesome. She also sells gingers and walking iris and beautiful tropicl magnolias.The standard abutilons are very beautiful too. I am goig there tomorrow to get 1 of each.

Happyjacq - the purple one you are talking about is a Datura not a brugsmansia. I used to grown Datura's but found they get even more pests than the brugs and eventually get too weedy from all the seeds. I stick only to brugs now. The one you mention always pops it head up occasionally at the Rocklea markets.

Yes Steve, You are right. I remember exclaiming to the nursery owner about the purple brug and her correcting me. Rocklea markets is a fun place for plants, some scary looking people meandering about though, I now wear a bum bag if I go, as my wallet was pinched from my bag....;ive and learn I guess. I always use the bum bag when overseas, just didn't realise I needed it at home.

Yes HJ Steve's right. The Daturas are more of a shrub with the flowers growing out at an angle while the Brugs have generally the pendulous bell-like flowers. I do like some of the Daturas though magical perfume and some of the doubles are very attractive. They do set a lot of seed, though it's easy enough to snip off the pods if you don't want them
