Alpine Forget-me-not

Eritrichium canum (syn Eritrichium rupestre v. pectinatum) is an Alpine Forget-me-not from Nepal. Lovely clear blue - I have three little plants so will have to look after them over the summer. Not sure how hardy they are but have flowered very quickly.

They look exactly the same as the seed I grew from seed that GaryK, Melb(goblue) sent me, John. If they are, they seed like mad and grow quite tall. They are certainly different from the usual forget-me-nots though and beautiful.

gfult, One of the forget me nots is actually a biennial, so it grows in year one and in year two it blooms (usually in May or early Jun), sets seed and dies.. Presumably it will self sow after it sets seed, but many gardeners are tidy and clip off the brown stems with the dead seed heads which prevents this from happening. As cheesy says above, if you have a place for forget me nots, they will make a beautiful blue focal point in spring, maybe for years to come. I have enjoyed reading about plants from other parts of the country in this thread. I've never seen most of the plants you wrote about. I hope I get to travel to them some day. My favorite native has to be Zenobia pulverulenta or dusty zenobia. When in bloom it looks like it's made of moonlight and aquamarine, gilded with opal and set with rubies and pearls. It is simply the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. My next favorite is a toss-up between Calycanthus florida for the scent and Sarracinas for the plain weirdness of the leaf and the beauty of it's bloom.

Just remembered I kept it's name John, this is it's picture. It is called Cynoglossum, but commonly Chinese Forgetmenot.

Yes Tricia similiar flowers but your plant is an annual (or biennial) and I think it gets quite tall (80cm?). Eritrichium gets to about 20-30cm and the only tall thing is the 4000m plus that it grows at.
There seems to be a number of similiar 'forget-me-not' flowers and all so attractive but sadly some of them are very weedy. My daughter has a white one (Myosostis) and it's not nearly as nice as the blue pest.

I have the "blue pest" variety, though I don't mind it as yet. The Alpine one looks really nice and the Chinese one as well.

A lovely blue, I also have a perrenial one which has vidid blue or striking white flowers it grows about 18 inches

You are right John, it does grow quite tall and is a biennial.
