I don't know about all of you but some of my flower beds have become "sunny". I mean that the ice storms have broken so many large tree limbs off that the have way too much sun now to be shade beds. I thaink that is some of my flowers problem. I started watering last week and some of my plants seem to be starting. Although I always grow sunflowers for the grandchildren, I say that but I really love them too. but they are almost to the roof top this year! They normally don't quite make it that tall. guess we'll wait and see. We go out to check them every day. I did some winter sow as well for the first time. I have to say I did like the idea and I had some success, but I am one of those that I like some instant color. I know I won't get that form this os I think I will get some annuals to place in with them this year. When I do that again next year I will know for the get go and plant some in there to begin with. I planted a lot of new bulbs this year and got all the green tops but no flowers so sure hope nothing gets them before spring! Proudgm, what is this "tomatoes in upside down 5 gallon bucket"? Is it like those bags? Where did you "hand" it? You have me thinking up all kinds of crazy things. that's not always a good thing for me, lol. Oh yes and my elephant ears are doing so great this year too. sure wish I could figure out why every thing else is so stunted. Christie, so sorry to hear about your families loss. I know a new friend will find you when it is the right time. My Mahala is still hanging in there. I give her shots and a lot of meds. she has goo days and bad, but she isn't in pain other when it's cold or rainy. Like me w/arthritis. Bonnie

Greg, the big pindo is planted on the south east side of my house.I have'nt thought about how im going to protect them, and all my palms.I will probably put lights and some kind of wrap on my Pindos Palms. My Blue Mediterranean Fan Palms made it through last winter with no problem,so I will wait and see what this winter is going to be like.I have two Queen Palms, you can only see one of them from that picture.I will probably build some kind of structure around them, with lights or something far a heat source. Protempsfish,Douglasville is a very nice town to live in.I live in the historic district, about 1/4 mile from the center of downtown Douglasville. When I was little it was a little country town, now it has tripled in size in the past five years. bamatufa, thanks for info, but I have two Queen Palms now.I have 10 palms that im going to have to protect already.I will check it out anyhow. The last time I was at my local HD they were sold out of the 3 and 7 gallon queen palms.I did notice they put some three gallons in fancy pots and they are priced at $40 dollars(CRAZY)!!! Thanks for all the responses and complements.I hope everyone is having a great summer, and keep planting :)

Picking a Rose at my Front door
Q

I've never paired up two vines before and actually have only had 1 rose ever in my yards. I've used a lot of clemetis, but with this area I didn't want to look at dry leaves all winter long (we use the front door a lot). I'll have to claim ignorance about roses and need to know what to expect as far as the winter. Will it be mostly be just the canes? David, I think you may have hit it on the spot for me. Not only will this plant be by the front door, we were going to have to make some kind of space allowance to reach our arm in to turn the hose on and off. What I read it smells delicious, few if any thorns and blooms mostly in the spring and fall, with sporatic flowering in the summer, I'm like SOLD. Where are you at and how have they grown for you? Spring blooms? Fall blooms? Summer blooms? etc Did you get yours bareroot? What problems if any have you had. I just noticed a whole forum on roses (I love GW). I guess I could have posted there too since I was so specific as to wanting a rose, but everyone has been terrific for ideas.

Well now I am very envious, my walks produce nothing like that.
What a beautiful area you must live in. As for seeing an Echidna, well suffice to say I am looking very green at the moment. :-)

What a wonderful place the Huon valley must be. We have travelled over quite a lot of Tassie (hoped to live there at one stage) but have never been to your side. Do you mean that you have actually planted those maroonhood orchids yourself or have they grown there naturally? You have chosen a wonderful profession if you get your wish. Thanks so much for these lovely pictures.

Hello Tric, it's been a while.

Those little Maroonhoods have come up all by themselves. There's now three species of wild orchids growing naturally in my lawn. That's my excuse for being slack with the mowing anyway!

Thank you for the kind words everyone, it's given me incentive to go out and take some more piccys for you all!
