I still have gerbera daisies, pentas, salvia leucantha, salvia coccinea, salvia farinacea; random echinacea, gaillardia and roses -- awaiting that killing frost that will take out everything. Charisma floribunda 11/13/08 Just coming into bloom is Camellia sasanqua, which blooms until near Christmas. Camellia japonica blooms after Christmas. Open blooms will be browned by a hard freeze, but the hardy buds will open in the next warm spell. Kerria blooms midwinter, very pretty tumbling down a hill. Ci, I think Fragrant Blue may be a little out of sync if it bloomed normally for me. It was around first of August here. Of course, we had a lot of rain, and that may have boosted it a bit. Right now, mama plantaginea is blooming for the first time in Alabama, and she is probably going to be the end of it all. But, I think it was Honeybells and Fried Bananas still in bloom, and a purple one too......Paradise Sunrise? (or is it Paradise Sunset, I hate it when that happens to me)...which is RE-blooming. Had to lose a couple of weeks in the garden due to a sore foot and dental surgery, but now I'M BACK!!!! Just in time to plant the two orders which arrived Thursday and Friday from Hallsons and Don Rawson. Of course it poured rain today, and dampened my enthusiasm some....but I at least unloaded all the mulch and bags of manure from the car...in the rain.

They should be self-fertile. humm.. Sounds downright scary, but I have heard that a great way to force them into bearing heavily is to stress them a bit by gouging the trunk.. some Chinese farmers cut the bark of Jujube trunk - it somehow sparks a reproduction response in the plants and helps prevent the tree from dropping fruit.. it is a technique that has been used (supposedly) for centuries. I was reading a little about both species and I think the amurensis is more of a woodland species or it grows in meadows near woodlands in Japan and nearby countries. Vernalis grows in meadows and steppes in Eurasia. Amurensis grows to 8", vernalis 1'. They are both nice, but I prefer the amurensis because I think its leaves frame the yellow flower better. Heruga, I thought you had chicken wire covering your Adonis? haha... I don't see any?
