It takes a fairly good period of drying out (two weeks should do it) after digging up for the old corm to shrivel up and give way. I haven't grown glads for a while, but after digging them, I'd clean all the dirt off, cut the foliage down to about a 6-10" fan and just leave them in a bucket till they were dry. When totally dry, the old corm came away from the new one with just a twist of the wrist. Too green and they stick tight. Whether or not they bloomed, your glads should have produced a new corm and probably a lot of little cormlets.

Gardenpoppy, Just shipped out my box today priority and put the same inside. I sent daffodil bulbs, white calla lily bulbs, pink tulips, orange Wyoming canna, and misc cannas that could be red yellow or orange. (I forget what color they were) My biggest want for this swap would be to have pink cannas, not salmon but pretty pink with green leaves. I would give away all of my orange ones for pink!!! And of course the usual-love to have asiatic, oriental lilies, alliums-love them too, etc... anything pink, purple or white. This has been fun, next year will be better because I will have more stuff to swap. Thanks again for hosting!!! jenny.

Well, I finally got some more of my seedlings in the groud in a light rain that ought to do them a world of good. TOday I planted out feeathertop pennisetum, Campus Apricot cosmos (Seems studier then the yellow one), My "Sweet" dianthus, My Mystery Dianthus from DH's Japanese friends (printing in JApanese!) and my Blue bouquet Delphinium. HAd just time to sprinkle slug bait before dark, as I Am keeping the ducks away until the seedlings take hold. I Also got some things moved int ot he greenhouse to harden off as I Am keeping my starting room pretty warm with the ducklings in it. (1 blue runner, 4 white crested, and 2 flying mallards.) DH changed their litte tonight so now all is sweet and clean! After the dry dry winter we have been having very normal April showers here. I like it! TOmorrow I need to plant out all my lilies I Planted into pots. SOme are 30" tall and several have buds set. THey should have gone out weeks ago but I have been too busy t trying to do it all myself. Getting my son to haul compost for me is really helping but he is under treatment fo r asthma right now so not sure how much to ask of him...he is a very frail young man, but a very good companion.

However, a source for gladioli bulbs closer to Indiana (think shipping costs) is a farm located in southwestern Michigan that specializes in gladioli. Their gladiolus are breathtakingly beautiful. You can phone them, and they will send you a catalog. Great customer service. They're there to answer any questions you may have including pest control. The name of the company is Nagel Bulb Company located in Schoolcraft, Michigan. I don't think they have a website. Although, they may now have one. We always call them.
