What a strange looking orchid, I like it. The Tillandsias look healthy, mine are tiny still. The Amorphophallus is an unusual looking thing isn't it, both the name and flower are rather suggestive though :)

Yes, if you know your Latin from school the name is obvious isn't it /
It has a bad perfume too,it is of the family of the giant one in the gardens in England that is very difficult to breath in near.
The person who's garden these plants are in has a great collection of unusual and wonderful plants and ferns.

Amorphophallus Bulbifer From Seed

Susan, when I last propagated them by seeds, I harvested the seeds in late summer, removed the red skin and planted the seeds in seed raising mix. Since it was heading into winter, I put the tray with a lid on the hot water system inside (gives nice bottom heat) an waited and waited. Came spring the seeds germinated. However, a few weeks later, when I checked the motherplant in the garden, I saw that the remaining seeds (which I had not collected back then and just let them fall to the ground) all ended up germinating without any heat or watering or fuss. Felt that growing it from seeds (in zone 10 at least) was a waste of effort, but yeah do it for fun. Have fun

Need advice for Amorphophallus bulbifer after flowering

My bulbifers are in pots. Both times I've had flowers mine have formed seed heads, and I just left them outside in the pots as usual for summer without problems. One ripened (and seeded off) in the garden and the other stalk ripened over winter in the garage. Usually I take the tubers out of the soil and store them on a shelf, but last year I left the one with the seed head in the pot, unwatered, and it was fine. Konjac flowered for me the first time this year, and I had to put it outside earlier than usual. I was afraid I had rotted it in the wet, cool spring weather when the flower stalk finally melted down, but it put up a leaf in June. On a side note, I've learned this year what happens if your amorph gets 'topped'. I had a bunch of little bulbifers that got chomped by a deer, and am happy to say that they've all put up new leaves. It's a good thing to know in my neck of the woods.

the orchid is so unusual, I love it, and I love the tillandsias, especially that cute pink one, are they very old because they look quite big?

the tillandsias are a few years old now , they were just one or two plants tied to the wire at first and every year they seem to double up.
The pink one is usually bluish green till it is ready to flower and they it gets the lovely ping flush before putting out the flower.
