I'm pretty sure I had French Lace, but its tenure in the garden was across drought years.. It's been such a wet season comparatively .. well at least here it has, it's hard to say re the black spot. I guess its not much help, but I don't love the roses enough to spray the chemicals, so anything that can't cope without has to go. Another reason I love the teas. I never seem to have to spray them.. but again. I will be interested to see how they go this year with moister conditions.

A response!! I'd almost given up. Thanks snodge. You know I don't think a little fungicide such as Triphorine once in awhile is going to bother anything other than annoying funguses like blackspot. Hybrid teas immune! I've one in amongst my lot and it too suffers. The only roses I have that don't are the old heritage vaieties such as the rugosas: Rugosa scabrosa; Frau Dagmar Halstrup; Blanc Double de Coubert and Lilian Freeman. Also Rosa xanthina 'Canary Bird', a gorgeous but non repetitive buttercup yellow single; and that big beautful white, the Cherokee Rose, R, lavigata. And some other more modern repeating toughies like Simplicity and Nearly Wild are mostly ok. I think my French Lace and Anne Endt will have to go though. Might be ok way out west.

No no, not hybrid teas. Tea Roses no hybrid.. the old sorts.. you know, like Monsieur Tillier that sort of thing... I don't think anything is completely immune, but I have found the teas pretty resistant.

Oh, sorry, yeah (seems we've got 3 messages going here!) I dunno, I'll have to check 'em out in my Botanica's Pocket Roses book. I do prefer all the old roses on account of their generally superior foliage and disease resistance. The fact they may only have one bloom a year with maybe some 'spot' blooming over the season is niether here nor there. I think many David Austins, although not old world, have 'Tea' parentage, but I'l check. By the way, Tea Rambler looks like one worth looking for, do you know of it?

I've heard of it, but no experience with it.
The teas are good because they are recurrent flowering. You get a big flush then a pause while they prepare the next flush, but I find mine generally have flowers all season if they are getting a reasonable amount of water... mine live on rainfall.. another reason I like them. They seem very drought resistant.

So do mine, live on rainwater. The D. As are good dry weather roses too, maybe it's the 'Tea' in them.
