Vini, not all Hibiscus syriacus are as "weedy" as the lovely sterile varieties. The pictured shrub may not produce seeds. I'm guessing it was planted so near the house to protect it from the colder Michigan temps. It can be transplanted to another location and it doesn't need that trellis for support. Pride of Hankins? Commonly used in Fl landscape. Very good plant. Huge. Used as rootstock for Tropical grafted hibiscus. Picture is five down on right of link. Start counting panels when hibiscus show up. Here is a link that might be useful:

Most any but the tropical forms will do fine in Houston. I have talked with quite a few my cutomers that live in the Houston area and many of them grow the tropical forms with a great degree of success by their accounts. But there are dozens fo cultivars that can be grown from cutting or purchased as plants or even grown from seed. I think I remeber last year burpee having Luna Blush which is one of my current favorite hardy (perennial hibiscus:) Mine are left outside in the containers over winter and they are just about to flower (they have dozens of buds on them as I write this post. Any day now they will bust out in their full glory. Hope this helps, Happy Growing David

I take it you're talking about tropcial hibiscus - H. rosa-sinensis. I have a few seeds. The mother is a red and the father may be a red or a pink. Barb
