Well it looks like Megaskepasma erythrochlamys (otherwise known as "Waddamouthful") or, if it is, one of the various things commonly called "Brazilian Red Cloak".
Now what is the hibiscussy-leaf-looking thing behind it?

Ahhh, thank you Alison. Brazilian Red Cloak rings loud bells.
The plant behind it is my glorious double Rose of Sharon. It's absolutely fabulous. Pam got me cuttings last year. Do you want some? It is ridiculously easy to grow. I swear you could probably just lay them on the ground and they would shoot.
I think I've got some shots from last year. I'll have a look and post them ...if I find them.

I tried foxgloves from seed for the first time this spring. I started them in those little peat pellets under grow lights about the last part of Feb. (probably too early). They have done remarkably well and didn't seem fussy or have any problems. Foxgloves are one of my favorites, they are just so beautiful. As for dividing a mother plant, I've never needed to do that. But since very hot weather is almost here, I'm sure that the divided smaller ones would need to be watered very frequently till they recover from being moved. Good luck! Vicki

The two are very similar varieties. A cross should be pretty good. The first generation will be an F1 hybrid, should a good deal of uniformity. If you save seed from the F1 hybrid, the next generation will begin shuffling the characteristics from the two parent lines. Go ahead, you have nothing to lose. Just remember, if anyone else is growing zucchini or acorn squash, nearby, you may get yet another, unexpected cross. I don't know...but I offered seeds from a hybrid Echinacea and I say that's where they come from on my list. I'm clear that I can't guarantee anything, but they're welcome to try. I have had quite a few people willing to try and they were so happy. Heidi
