We have quarter-minus and just love it. Prior to laying it down we sprayed the general yard area with Ground Clear.....yikes, I'm running for my flame retardant suit! This yard was a serious weed-ville with the previous owner and the yard is about 1/3 acre so digging out each weed was not going to work for us. We're in our 60's already and would like to enjoy the yard before we expire. ;-) I'll see if I can find a picture of the yard just after we finished spreading all the gravel. It's like coarse beach sand and we have it about 3" deep all over. This pic is 2010, the gravel had been down about 2 years and we've added trees, shrubs and gardens so it's not so barren looking anymore. A few weeds pop up but we control them easily by pulling right away.

LOL - laughing at your descriptions... "grow one micron from the base of any plant...", "soaking the ground... to a muddy mess". It's amazing how a single little plant can create a horror show nightmare in the garden which we planted for our own enjoyment. Even after eradication, the memory of the nightmare lingers on. I had that experience with Ipheion, the cute little bulb about the size of a garlic clove that grows into a cute little grass-like clump ---- then spreads BILLIONS of seeds around the entire yard, and the bulbs multiply underground as fast as ants and grow one micron from the base of any plant. Can you brush Roundup on it with a paper towel or paintbrush?

While there are those that will disagree with this sedges are plants that evolved in soils wetter then normal. Sedges do not grow in dry soils, but then neither will much of anything else except the cacti family.
