Gardening in Oz

i'm a melbourne based film student working on my graduation project. in one of the scenes i want one (or two if possible) walls to have ivy or some kind of creeper growing about halfway up the walls.

How would i achieve this, if possible in 4 and a half weeks? ideally i would want to use a fake wall and just leave it to grow in my backyard then bring that on location. what kind should i use/do?

Seriously, I am not an expert but I think you need to approach some greensmen (film type) I don't think you could 'grow' anything in that time. Even if it were spring.
Possibly try a landscaping firm that does regular maintenance on unit grounds or large estates, and you could mock up something with prunings/offcuts, ie trims that they would otherwise throw out.

I think cuttings is the way to go. The only plants I can think of that would grow that fast are the weeds in my garden. One of the worst is Madeira vine, its growing overnight at my place at the moment, its terrible.

Pick out colors or whites like you want. Paint on poster board, or buy the peel and stick color patches and put on poster board. Leave a white border all the way around the poster board, so it doesnt clash with the color you have now. Since you want the whole house the same color, then pick a color that goes in your kitchen with your cabinets etc first. Then try it in the rest of the house. The color in there now, does not go with your cabinets. It has way too much yellow in it. I would look for colors that have no yellow hues.

I don't, but if you click on the link that says "More Info" below the photo, you'll see which pro posted it on Houzz. You could then message them to ask whether they still have the color/brand on file. I would bet money that the Benjamin Moore store could find you a sage green in their Historic Color palette that is very similar.

The rug should be big enough to slip under the front 1/3 - 1/2 of the sectional and extend past the right and left ends of it by a foot or more. Use blue painter's tape on the floor to tape that out, then measure and buy a rug in the closest size to what your taped rug measures.

Yes a runner would be safer on the stairs. That raised edge (if I am seeing right) is a terrible tripping situation. My good friend had that and it was really bad. Hope you can get that done.

Visit one of the theatres - His Majesty's or Princess and ask the theatre props people how they mock up ivy covered walls for the productions. I would guess it is a matter of painting chipboard with a base coat from the bottom - black then further off the ground green, at the top some blue sky. Paint in creeper tendrils and then add some cuttings of ivy to give it a 3D effect. There is sure to be some ivy hanging around that people will be glad to get rid of. Otherwise the $2.00 shops often have artificial sprigs that would suit your purpose. Good luck and let the forum know how you get on.

i've got some good ideas now, going to test some out.
