I wanted the butterfly bush Summer Beauty, and I found it at Digging Dog. I saw they also had Ellen's Blue and since I had read several posts about gardeners liking the color, I thought I would give it a try. Since I just got them in early Sept. I have no idea what they will look like, but the plants DDN sent were very nice. They were looking just fine until my DH sheared one off with the lawn mower. !@#$%^*I(&%$#@! He told me not to hesitate to place another order in the spring. You can be sure I will. They are reviewed in Dave's Garden/Watchdog. Take a look. Yes I've heard of this theory and though I don't subscribe to it (I leave the scape on so as to follow the natural process, not to bring unused nutrients back into the bulb), it never hurts to leave the scape on (in the case of a healthy, rooted bulb) but in this case, the bulb will quickly adapt. I'm surprised it hasn't rooted, actually. Though it is really hot in Phoenix I would imagine the roots wouldn't have to suffer as much. Then again, a pot sitting outside all day is likely going to raise to that hot temp anyway. This article is for bonsai... but it applies to ALL plants as far as I know Ryan

There you go again Dad. The subject matter is something that came off the top of my head for no rime or reason. Probably could have done better. Don't go off the deep end and Google it or take it to E-bay's resolution council. lol There are a lot of Hoopsii out there that can't make it to the 1st step with regard to being All Blue...true blue. Most fade out back to blue /green with green being the predominate color later in the season. You growing one??? The 'Donna's Rainbow' is a perfect example of being a so so blue . After looking at it in the post I should have left it out. It's OK but just barely makes the grade. Have a good one pops. Dave

Great photo, Thinman. 'Jack Frost' is one of my favorite perennials. I love the foliage and the flowers are such a wonderful blue. The J.F.s that I have in my shade garden survived the move from Ohio several years ago. I started with one plant, but it had several babies which were true to the parent. So they must have grown from the crown of the original (at the moment I can't recall exactly how I got the babies!) Anyway you might check your plants this fall to see if you have any little guys coming along next to the parent. Propagation is only supposed to be done by licensed propagators. It's a patented plant so I think that's why it's more expensive. Patti
