Mystery Tree

Hi All,

I'm hoping one of you 'down under' might recognize this tree thus help me identify it. It's been suggested to me that it's a type of Hibiscus - likely a Hau Tree or Sea Hibiscus and while I agree, I've not been able to pin this particular variety (if it's a Hibiscus) down.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Holly
I just had a look through my books, it definately looks like the variegated form of Hibiscus tilliaceus (Botanica). Botanica says that it "grows to a height and spread of 30 ft(9m)". I love your photos.

Hi All, I was hoping to get help in identifying a tree. The tree is approximately 20-25 feet tall and has distinct warty red seedless berries that are approximately (1/2)to (3/4) inch long. I am hoping to determine if they are harmful to pets. Thanks for your help! Image link:

I haven't seen enough here to be sure it isn't P. x canescens for instance. Unless it is known that hybrid does not occur in the American SE. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=populus+canescens&qpvt=populus+canescens&FORM=IGRE

If it sets fertile fruit it's invasive. The fact that it popped up randomly in your yard shows that it came from a fertile fruit. Birds eat the berries so the seeds are spread far and wide - one shrub can do serious harm. The responsible choice is to kill it then double check to be sure there aren't any others on your property.
