Andrew - That's quite a list! We are forever collecting more plants and trees lol It's a never ending process! Now, we just need to buy a very large greenhouse or move somewhere that's warmer and sunnier. I prefer the latter ! Now, I have about 20 Violette de Bordeaux fig cuttings. I am thrilled but also nervous cause I've never rooted fig cuttings. But they can't be more difficult than rooting a plumeria? Right? LOL tropicaliste - Did your ylang ylang bloom? That would be quite a fantastic site and not to mention very fragrant too! The smell on your plumeria sounds divine and delicious, too! LOL I was admittedly disappointed with my dwarf singapore. It had a very light and barely noticeable fragrance. Though, I am hoping my aimhorn and kauka wilder will put bloom this summer. I'd love to see a pic of your plumeria. Where did you order you air layered lychee from? What variety? I have a Brewster and Pink Ohia (for about a year now). The squirrels like chewing on the bark and breaking their branches, which makes me quite upset! Though, I did bring them inside in the fall and noticed some new growth. It appeared darker so I thought it was fungus and snipped all of it off. Well, come to find out (after going through the tropical fruit forum) that these were flower blooms. I sure could kick myself for not knowing better! oh well... lesson learned. Though, I don't think it would've fruited or anything but it would've been nice to let the tree decide instead of me lol Since, seedlings don't have a very high survival rate (in my care) I am always impressed with people who have the patience and knowledge on how to nurse their seedlings along. What mango variety are you thinking about? There are so many varieties to choose from! I won't be surprised if you end up with half a dozen lol -Bo

I was very fortunate to get one of these seedlings from Jacob. Igot it last summer and even under grow lights this tree continues to grow and thrive. Jacob, Thanks very much for inculding me on this trade. I am very appreciative of it. Right now it is growing in my kitchen window forming tons of new branches. It did get stunted in my bedroom because I didn't have it close enough to the HPS light but now in the kitchen it is growing even better. I suspect the fact that the base board heater about 3ft below it has something to do with it. Hi Harry, I wanted to ask you how large these seedlings would have to be to produce fruits? I am thinking that if mine ever did, it will be many years from now. I know jay has had his 'Gold Nugget' for a while now and no fruits yet, though I think he told me he is hoping for fruit this year. I am going to prune mine the same way he prunes his. He said keeping the branches short to produce a more comlunar tree is imprtant for indoor growers to keep it in bounds. I don't know if I told you but Bo did send me some jackfruit chips and some canned jackfruit. I liked the chips the best but the canned fruit wasn't bad either. I am hoping that maybe this year I will get my hands on fresh fruit. Andrew

The marang seeds I have from Puerto Rico have almost all sprouted, there were a few puny seeds that did not. I started them, like almost all my seeds, in a moist (not wet) paper towel inside a zip top bag. Once the seeds cracked open and started send out their roots, I planted them in potting soil. I started them in 16oz plastic cups filled with OSH potting soil (shredded bark, perlite, sand, peat w/ph 5.5-6), perlite and Soil Moist w/mycorrhizae. Once the first real leaf emerged I moved them up to 32oz cups, the tap root had already reached the bottom of the 16oz. Most of them seem to be doing good, a few died but most are healthy and are on their 3rd or 4th real leaves. They have not seen temps below 60F and receive filtered sun/shade. They will overwinter in a S. facing window inside a humidity chamber in the house (w/ pulasan, rambutan, mangosteen, etc.). Considering Whitman has them in a pavilion, I dont have a lot of hope fruiting them in the CA desert. Pedalai was a holy grail for me, I found a source this past winter for seeds and ordered multiples, killed them all. In PR we saw a HUGE pedalai tree, unfortunately, no fruit. I've satiated my urge to kill pedalai seeds for now and seeing how monstrous the tree gets settled me down too. I'll stick to kwai muk, jak, breadfruit, breadnut, chempedak and marang, that is enough artocarpus for now, well.....maybe lakoocha. -Ethan

Bev, Yes, not only tasted NDM mangoes, but it's one of my favorite. It's a polyembryonic mango, so meaning it will sprout more than one plant from one seed(2-6 plant per seed). But only one of those many sprouts, if let to mature and eventually fruit. Will be the sexually produce off spring. This one will not the the same or similar to the fruit you ate from. Though the other many sprouts will be clones of the parent or be very similar. There's also the monoembryonic mango type, like those commonly found at the stores. Very brightly colored and more of a rounder shape. Those won't come true from seed and only produce one plant per seed. The mature fruit will be different and can either be very good or very bad. So poly type of mango is a better gamble to plant out and have good tasting fruits. But if you really want a real NDM mango tree and fruits, grow out any mango seeds, you can get your hands on and get some mature scion wood to graft it on, when the mango seedling is mature enough for grafting. Or if you mange to save up a bit and just order from a reputable nursery, they will have already grafted plant for you to grow out. NDM is also a Indo Chinese/ SE Asian mango strain of mango. Almost all SE Asian/Indochinese mango strain are poly and come pretty true from seeds and the shape of the fruits is usually a long kidney shape fruit. So, even those little yellow kidney mangoes, you guys find some times at the stores called ataulfo/champagne/honey/manila mango are poly and will come true from seeds.
