I am always interested in fruit seed trades. What I am looking for plant-wise: Kiwi Cherry of the Rio Grande Lemon Madrono Pitomba Pulasan Mangos- certain ones Atemoya Cherimoya Rumberry persimmon Date Palm Goji berry Capulin Cherry- prunus salicifolia I have a number of fruit trees,but I am into anything with sweet fruit, and the faster it bears fruit, the more I like it! I am always finding new things I didn't know I needed, so if you have something, mention it, I may want it! I have lots of other tropical fruit seedlings I did not mention, so if you are looking for something, ask! If I eat it, I plant it! I would love to see an exchange page on this forum. When I post on the "tropicals", "plants" or "seed" exchanges,most people don't have tropical fruit.

Jay, I'll be posting pictures first thing tomorrow - I just found another flower today, so things are definitely looking good for this year's fruiting prospects. Gardener, I'm in the extreme southeast of Miami, about 25 minutes north of the Florida Keys. The Jakfruit seems very well adapted to our climate (and is actually tolerant of local soil conditions as well); as a matter of fact, there are actually a couple of small commercial growers some 15 miles to the west of where I live. Patusho, I'll be sure to get your information in 4-6 months when I harvest the fruit. The commercial growers I mentioned earlier use Black Gold seedlings for rootstock on account of their exceptional vigor (although NS-1 is also used for rootstock), and it seems that seedlings generally exhibit precocity as well, so collecting the seed is well worthwhile.

Andrew - That's quite a list! We are forever collecting more plants and trees lol It's a never ending process! Now, we just need to buy a very large greenhouse or move somewhere that's warmer and sunnier. I prefer the latter ! Now, I have about 20 Violette de Bordeaux fig cuttings. I am thrilled but also nervous cause I've never rooted fig cuttings. But they can't be more difficult than rooting a plumeria? Right? LOL tropicaliste - Did your ylang ylang bloom? That would be quite a fantastic site and not to mention very fragrant too! The smell on your plumeria sounds divine and delicious, too! LOL I was admittedly disappointed with my dwarf singapore. It had a very light and barely noticeable fragrance. Though, I am hoping my aimhorn and kauka wilder will put bloom this summer. I'd love to see a pic of your plumeria. Where did you order you air layered lychee from? What variety? I have a Brewster and Pink Ohia (for about a year now). The squirrels like chewing on the bark and breaking their branches, which makes me quite upset! Though, I did bring them inside in the fall and noticed some new growth. It appeared darker so I thought it was fungus and snipped all of it off. Well, come to find out (after going through the tropical fruit forum) that these were flower blooms. I sure could kick myself for not knowing better! oh well... lesson learned. Though, I don't think it would've fruited or anything but it would've been nice to let the tree decide instead of me lol Since, seedlings don't have a very high survival rate (in my care) I am always impressed with people who have the patience and knowledge on how to nurse their seedlings along. What mango variety are you thinking about? There are so many varieties to choose from! I won't be surprised if you end up with half a dozen lol -Bo

Patusho, I received the large potted Artocarpus from a reliable fellow, so I'm pretty sure that it is a marang. Both of my pedalai exhibited heavy juvenile branching, by the way, which I have not observed in marang. I think I'm going to have to expand the enclosure for my in-ground pedalai - it's grown much more quickly than I expected. As for cold protection, the potted plants will be coming indoors for cold snaps and the outdoor plants will be covered and heated; I spend too much time on these guys to take any risks. Jay, my durians are doing marvelously - I'm shocked by how well they're growing, since they have a reputation for being difficult. I have them under 50% shade cloth and they're all over a meter tall now (except for the grafted "chanee", which was quite small when I received several months ago). If they manage to pull through the winter without much fuss, I might be putting one in the ground next year. Oh, and my starfruit is an "Arkin" - it's ridiculously productive, which is great because everyone I know loves starfruit. Gary, you're absolutely right about breadfruit and jakfruit being related. I actually have five Artocarpus species growing at the house now - breadfruit, jakfruit, pedalai, marang, and chempedak. Of those, only the jakfruit is likely to survive without special attention during the winter. Oh, and I noticed you are growing 'Hipolito' pomegranate - how are the fruit? I have a tree, but it has yet to bear. Ethan, thanks for the kind words. Where did you get your abiu seeds? I'll try to find some time to take more pictures of my trees before the late year winds start to make them look awful.
