Hi Marcia! I am in Sarasota near the coast, so borderline 9b/10a. I have had this plant for over 3 years and absolutely love it. It blooms for several months starting November. It is one of the few plants in my yard that got only a little damage from the cold this year, and none other years. We got down to 28 twice, 30-32 quite a number of days, and well, you know how long it's been yucky. I think you are a little south of me and maybe east? Your climate must be similar? How cold did you get this winter? Remember this winter is abnormal as far as our winters go. I think in all likelihood, this is going to be a plant you love. It becomes a very large bush (at least 6-7 feet and even wider), and gets a pretty, roundish, full shape. Foliage is nice looking, and the flower clusters are many and sooo pretty. Bees adore it. Mine gets a severe pruning once a year and grows to that size again. It really needs close to full sun to do really well. This plant is definitely worthwhile and is a great thing to have in the winter when other things don't look their best. I think your choice (and taste) was excellent! Anna

I have heard that there is a tropical azalea, but have never seen it. Nor any rhododendrons. They are probably on the 'unusual' or 'rare' side here! I have no clue, though! Thanks for the info on resizing. I have just received this info on the test forum (thank goodness for people who will lend a hand) and am on my way to learn to use the sizing correctly. Really do appreciate the suggestions. I was scratching my head, not knowing how I was doing this. First no pics, then too much! :) Clare, just to make sure I understand, I should delete the photos from Photobucket and reload them after I have adjusted the edit size? Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. First time I'm using Photobucket, not that I was a pro by any means on Webshots!!! As evidence certainly indicates..........Sigh!

Great advise Katkin! As for blooming, it's a little later this year probably because of that early cold snap we had right after Thanksgiving. Bloom time is 4-5 months, 10th of Dec till May. Mine is 10-12 foot tall, crepe myrtle shaped, with a couple of leaders. This one has 4" balls of white flowers that bloom up and down the branch. The wallichii - also a winter bloomer - blooms Christmas to March, It has 5" hanging balls of pink flowers. AKA: The Christmas Ball Tree which you can see one at the Florida Botanical Gardens here in Largo. Dombeya Wallchii Anna, yours is the summer bloomer. And , no, it has no fragrance, but the hot pick flowers make it a keeper!......cheryl
