Jan though I am no expert I do have a few plants, bought or raised from seed and have been through repotting. I have also killed a few from kindness or neglect.

In the absence of someone more knowledgeable, I think that they respond well to repotting, and recover OK from pruning, the danger from the latter bein potential diseases that can cause rot.

Personally I would not do both at once - I'd either trim it back and feed it up a bit, or re-pot it.

Fresh, well draining mix will with some new fertilizer will give you great growth and you might even find it will re-shoot lower down, giving you the potential for a neater growth.

On the other hand it might cause new growth even lankier than what you've got.

I trimmed some back and dusted with derris dust or cinnamon to help from disease while they sort of healed over don't know whether it was succesful so far as mine are a bit neglected.

But overall I should think a re-pot would help, and cope with the rest and shaping later.
