Wanted ; Cordyline Lillinoe

Anyone out there can help with this cordyline. I have tried most suppliers without luck. A rooted cutting or a fresh cane

will do. (Just want to add to my growing collection) Thanks .

If you are still looking for Lilinoe, I suggest you be careful. Specimens of Firebrand are being sold as 'Lilinoe in S.E. Queensland. There is a big difference between the two cultivars. If you are in no hurry we have recently cut our plant and will have some available later on. You might also try Dennis Hundscheidt, he has the real thing.

I seem to recall reading in a classic book on NZ plants (Laing & Blackwell, which I don't own now), this anecdote about Cordyline australis: when early NZ settlers were carving out the clearings for their small farms they had a particular problem with the NZ cabbage tree. When they chopped into them with their axes, every chip that flew away and landed on the moist ground soon sprouted and took root, making a new plant. I suspect this would only have happened under a particular regime of temperature, rainfall and humidity.

Yes, a photo would help, however, if they were mine, I'd've cut all the top leaves off except for about 3 - the top-most 3 - and those I would have cut in half prior to planting. That doesn't stress the plant, it helps to reduce the stress caused by it's need to provide nutriments when it's roots have been deprived of their ability to do so. In other words, it helps to reduce the affect of shock. Regards B.
