Crepescule

I planted crepescule after posting a message seeking advice on it about 2 months ago. On advice you kind rose growers gave, I bought it, planted it, watered it and would you believe, this week I watched it's first bud develop into one of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen that today fully opened. And just a slight touch of a wonderful perfume! Thank you to those who told me how lovely it was. I will now nurture it through winter and look forward it it's matured magnificence.

Funnelweb wait until it's big and covered in flowers..
it's pretty special even if it's name is awful.. far better they had used the translation which is Twilight..

Also, when you get the TV broadcast of the Melbourne Cup in November, look at all the beautiful gold hedge that the winners come in and out past in the long passageway, that's your rose clipped into a hedge..Beautiful or what!!!

Thanks for your response, Kim. I would prefer growing her along my fence since that would be readily done. Here is a photo of the fence line from a couple of years ago. The rose to the left is Prosperity and Westerland to the right. I have another prosperity and the Westerland is a stingy bloomer and is very thorny so I may plant Crepescule in the center, then SP the other two to allow Crepescule to run the whole fence. That flower bed, however, is only about 24 inches deep and I wonder if I need to widen it to accomodate the new inhabitant, or will I be able to tie and/or prune Crepescule along that narrow bed? At my house Crepescule doesnt get too big- and is actually one rose I have lost due to cold temps (7b here). If it were me, I would position the plant in the corner of the 2 fences- otherwise I think you could be constantly pruning to keep the house numbers visible. Sort of reverse Murphy's Law- if you plant it in the center of the panel your rose will grow to an 8x8 monster. As far as how far out from the fence I dont have good experience with this- I can say my plan grows very upwright without support, but it is probably 4ft high, 2 ft wide and not very full or impressive looking, honestly. OK, my back up plan is that I realize that Crepescule will be too big for the bed and I'll have to move it. Then I'll HAVE to get another rose for the bed. Since I've been FORBIDDEN to get more roses until I plant everyone that I have. But I'm sure it will take a few years for it to get that big. Girlgroupgirl, I bought Lady Hillingdon at Chamblees last September. I went on a spree last year and bought 8 roses at Ashdown and 10 from Chamblees. After I pot up the two Glamis Castle I have, I won't have a pot ghetto anymore. At least not a rose pot ghetto.

ill-man - Only THREE? Gee, that's next to impossible but I'll give it a shot- For sheer bloom power, I would have to say Vincent Godsif, Old Blush, and Trinty. For scent, I would have to say Miss Caroline, Duchess du Brabant and the Gift. For bloom form, I would have to say Arethusa, [yeah it's new and I will have to see how it's health is in the garden], Monsieur Tillier and Spice. For over all vigor and health, I would have to say Prosperity, Louis Philippi, and Natchitoches Noisette. So there you go- THREE and ONLY THREE in each category. It's the best I can do. I only have a couple out of about 50 right now that I consider "dogs" and may replace if they don't shape up pretty soon. But, overall, I love all my roses for different reasons! nova

If magic Pete and Fran_c revisit this message: Pete, up here near Tweed Heads rposes etc don't really go fully into dormancy, just slow down a little. I've planted a few roses this year: seduction, freesia, climbing iceberg, crepescule, clm. Dublin Bay and all are puting on growth, in fact freesia is flowering. And fran_c, I've noticed that hedge on Melbourne cup day, thanks for telling me it's crep. and toy're right, Twilight would be much nicer.

Well, Im in Victoria and my Crepuscule, Icebergs, Friesa, Bonicas, and many others especially Alister Clarkes, Austins and Delabards are all in bud and blooming!
Victoria - fantastic one day and super duper the next lol!
