Did some nursery hopping today and found some great deals on discounted conifers at Green Acres Nursery, only in the Folsom location. Not all their conifers are on sale, but those that are have a 75% discount! You'll find some standard P. mugo out by the water tower ('Gnom' and 'Sherwood Compact') along with some larger growing Pines I really didn't pay attention to. Up closer to the building there are Picea pungens cultivars, P. omorika 'Nana' standards, a few large and a bunch of small P. bicolor 'Howell's Tigertail' on sale. I purchased both standard mugo and a small 'Howell's (it was under $4). Such great bargains, plus it's a huge beautiful nursery to walk through, I wanted to let those in the area know about it. Also, Bushnell Gardens has a large selection of conifers. The prices are high but they have cultivars seldom seen in our area, so it's worth the trip even to just look. Have fun! Barbara

I have ordered 5 different hydrangeas from them (3 last spring, 2 this summer) all arrived in great condition and are doing well. I'm hoping to visit their site next time I'm in Portland around the end of August and check out my ever growing "wish list" varieties. I can't wait.

Hi Gloria! I went through their website a few weeks ago, I made a list of just small and mini ones that I wanted. I didn't even make a list for the other sizes. Geeeee I would love to go, but I had a hard time deciding where to plant the ones I had in pots, when you were here. Then there is always that question, do I plant them here or take them to our other property? We might be putting this place up for sale in the spring. Right now I am so discusted and discouraged with how my hostas look. Last week I was ready to forget ever buying more! Then I went to Carols, and you know how it is. All you have to do is start looking at hostas and the FEVER comes right back! I know if I went to Sunrise I would buy a bunch and then when I got home, it would be the same old thing. WHERE DO I PUT THEM?! I need more beds!

KT, the sanctuary is run by the Norcross Foundation which was set up by the original owner. They also provide grants and loans to other land protection groups who are trying to preserve open space. Forgot to mention that admission is free and so are all their education programs! DTD, I also have the Burgundy Actaea...it's just starting to bloom now and its fragrance is heavenly!! The foliage is so nice. I always thought it was a native cultivar but I did hear somebody say recently that it is a European import, although I have not been able to verify this anywhere.
