I think that "Beaumont" is the most commonly planted guava in Hawaii -- the flesh is intensely pink-colored, which is a key requirement for use in the processing industry. (Guava nectar, puree, etc., are expected to be strongly colored.) However, I think that it is far from the best cultivar for eating out-of-hand. I sampled fresh fruit in Hawaii, and I found them to be tart, with annoyingly hard and woody seeds. I'm sure that there are lots of other guava types in Mexico that are much better as dessert fruit. In any case, I think that it is a pretty good bet that your fruit was produced from a plant that grew from a "Beaumont" seed (it sure looks like it has "Beaumont" characteristics). (Though technically it would be a seedling of "Beaumont", not "Beaumont", fruit and plant.)

@flowersaremusic z5 Eastern WA i think this one has too many petals to be Bow Bells. I counted about 40 petals and HMF says Bow Bells has 16-25 with mild fragrance. The myster rose has a strong fragrance. the growth habitat of the three stems was straight and ridged. Lots of thorns. It so hard to find information on any Austins which are no longer in commerce. @seasiderooftop Google Lens is so cool! thanks for the introduction. i researched the roses it matched but none seemed to be a fit based on fragrance and petal count. Is Scepte’d Isle out? i thought it was a good guess??

Yikes! Thank you. I got stung by a hornet a few weeks ago and had to go to ER as I developed cellulitis. Am avoiding all flying things right now! debra
