It's a beauty Jan

as a child we had one in the garden. From what I remember it was a long flowerer but quite a brittle shrub/tree. Nowadays they are much more colourful. Must have come with the name change. Dature was much easier to spell.

How beautiful! What's the difference between daturas and brugsmansia? I've got what I thought was a datura but it looks just like that, only it's white.
or is it the same thing?

Botanists divided Brugmansia from the genus Datura years ago. Brugmansias are the taller plants with furry leaves and large flowers which hang pendulously beneath the branches. Brugmansia have globular seed pods which hang in the same way after the flowers. That's what Jan has showed us above.

Datura are smaller, shorter lived plants, most species have glossy stems and leaves and the flowers are help upright, vertically above the canopy. Datura seed capsules are generally spikey and angular.

Datura are much less common in gardens than Brugmansia, but some people grow them and some varieties are wild weeds in Australia now.

They are both VERY poisonous, but very beautiful too.

We had Datura come in with some forage hay we bought and I think every seed germinated in the paddock we put the hay out in for the animals.

It is very poisonous and when we were pulling it out the smell gives the worst headache I think I have ever had, used to hate having to go our and pull it out but it had to be done.

Ok, so I've got a Brugsmansia. I think I may have a photo of my flower somewhere. I'll have to take a look. It's a beautiful flower isn't it?

Finally found the white one I have....nothing as spectular as yours but I was very pleased with it....

Very nice Annie,some of mine start of white and than turn Yellow,like a lot of flowers do.

It is a very pale brug, my pink starts out a yellowy colour.
I hope my pink Ecuador Pink will flower again soon, it has very long flowers.
