These are excellent container plants and are often grown as houseplants in areas where they are not hardy (this used to be listed as a Ligularia, so some confusion persists about hardiness. Minimum temp is 10F, so zone 7). It definitely wants shade and will tolerate full shade conditions well. Perhaps because I am not in a terrifically warm climate, I've not found its watering needs significant, but it doesn't like to dry out :-) For more info, google "Farfugium japonicum"
