I am on the hunt for the elusive Jade vine? Any thoughts out there?

Cuttings of the plant are periodically offered for sale on ebay (current listing is in link below). Also, you could ask your local nursery to buy it for you (they can check their suppliers' lists to see if any of them offer it).

You can also post to the 'Personal exchange' forum on the Australian gardening website. As this website won't let me post the URL, I'll split it up as follows--just replace the asterisks with full stops and join the first two words:

Try www.paraplants.com or email bob@paraplants.com. they usually have it, but maybe only in the warmer months. It is a mail order plant nursery at Nambour

This is not an orchid but a member of the Fabaceae. I believe that you need to score the seeds in order for them to germinate. you can do this by scratching them with a nail file. Then pot them in standard potting soil and leave in a moist warm spot. Just in case, try another forum or Google the name. Good luck. Rodrigo

Thank you peaseblossom! I think my mom says that the vine is like 3-4 years old. No she cannot get it to seed. She said that in other provinces it would seed and needs insects to polinate it. She sprays in her nursery so that might be one of the causes, killing beneficial insects too. Some growers are successful in propagating this plant through cuttings.

Are you near fairchild ????? Back in 1998 we were there and they had a huge jadevine. Don`t know it they were able to keep it tho. We were so inpressed that we gave it a try up here in Jupiter...zone 10 A. We got to cold for it. We would need a conseratory........ too many days to bring it into the garage. We would like to grow it again, We just need to give it its own building LOL ! But your zone 10 b.... I would give it a try :)

LOL doooglas that's kind of you to say. Yes, the heliconia is Bihai "Chocolate Dancer". Most people would not be able to tell that from the quality of this photo. I built the greenhouse to mimic a botanical garden house, and to be able to grow things like the Jade Vine and the Mucunas and palms that I could otherwise never grow here. I have perhaps 400 orchids in the collection, I am very partial to minis, bulbos and cirrhos, and vandaceous. I also love aroids and lost count of the different species of anthuriums, philodendrons and others I have collected. I have been at this for over 20 years now. I know Palms For Brisbane had them for sale a few weeks back when I was over there. They were very reasonably priced as well. They also had Flame Of The Forest.
