Pruning Bare Rooted Tree

First let me say how good it is to see some rain!!! Been fantastic. Lets hope all that are praying on it are getting it also.

Just bought a new bare rooted 7 foot tree (Prunus subhirtella or Falling Snow). This is a variety of weeping tree with white flowers. Should fill the gap fine.

Got told no need to prune the tree at all. The branches vary from 1 foot to 3 foot long now. Should I prune them right back now. Thought I should, or will it mess around with the spring growth?

Never had a large standard tree like this so I do not know for sure how to prune them. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Keep raining.............
