Does anyone know where I can buy Gallardias?

I saw some pots for sale in my local hardware store (Home) this year. Hey also had a few with the different shaped petals.
I also have quite a few seeds if you are interested and allowed to get them thru the quarantine restrictions for Tassie, let me know by email if I can help.

This is a Tasmanian site, so you won't have any quarantine problems.

Okay, maybe these O & L are hardier than I gave them credit for. Just as I was about to dig up the one that I thought didn't make it, I saw a tiny speck of green coming up. It must have known I had a shovel in my hand, LOL. These were much later to show any growth than the Burgundys or Goblins, so those of you waiting for them to come up, maybe give them just a little more time. It looks like all of the Gaillardias that I have moved in the fall haven't returned, so from now on I am only moving them in the spring, which I've had some success with. Hope this helps some. Bonnie

No. Remember, putting seeds in the freezer isn't going to give you cold strat unless there is a moist medium. They winter sow just fine. In fact, I have great luck spring and summer sowing them too. They like warm temps and grow best for me in drought conditions. Relax, have fun and enjoy.

Hi Fighting8r, This is the only thing i can claim to have had "success" with yet. I direct seeded them in a flower bed against the wall of our house, that is pretty well shaded. The soil in the front of the bed always seems to be verry sandy, and the area itself doesn't drain well. I was told that after they get all cragly looking to just cut them to the ground and they'll come back, did that to a few and they came back full force. I also just dug some up to seperate & replant, as they grew into a massive jumble of plants. I had a few still blooming in december :) I have to agree with mboston, they are definately a no care plant!! Katie

Thanks Dee, I do buy plants from the Woodbridge Nursery and I recently bought some Papavers from there. However, they seem to only stock 2 varieties of the Gaillardia - I intend to order those later. Saw some gorgeous varieties of them at Woolmers Estate when I visited there and I was inspired to grow more.

You never seem to see much of them around. I wonder why this is. Perhaps another 'victim' of garden fashion?

I saw some at a plant sale in my local supermarket for $1.95 each in Adelaide and bought three. There was also a feature on them in a gardening magazine I recently bought. The follage does look a bit weed like especially as I dont have any flowers yet. The ones I got are Gaillardia x grandflora "Goblin". They seem to have taken so far but not sure if they will like the poor clay soil. Shelley
