General Question about a tropical houseplant

I am not professional or master gardener so please bear with me on this as I will try to describe the plant and the problem I am experiencing with it.

I have a plant that was marked as a tropical from a local department store.

Since the tag on the plant was not more specific and I believe it is tropical. I am not fully sure what it truely is.

The plant looks to be similar to a corn type plant in it's growing and such, it has more of an orange color at the base of the leaves and along the central part of the leaf stem. The problem I am having with it is that the leaves tend to dry and turn brown starting at the tips and then progress further down toward the main stalk of the plant.

Can anyone help me with this problem so I can bring this plant back to the grand beauty I bought it for.

I would also like to propagate this plant and I am wondering if in doing so, would it be advisable or wise to use a rooting hormone to do this.

If I could post a picture to help better understand the plant and problem, please let me know how that can be done also.

Thank you in advance.
