Maybe it won't stop rusting completely, but when you have problems like that, I've discovered that feeding through leaves helps roses to look healthier and encourage better leaf growth. Roses can take epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) like that (see instructions on the package), and those organic, non-burning dynamic lifters and sea weed (again, see instructions first). Don't forget: don't feed your roses in the hot sun; it may hurt them more than rust. - Tom

I have it growing in our back 40, much to the chagrin of my wife. If God doesn't water it it doesn't get watered. OK! A few times it got lucky, during some rather severe droughts. I spray about 3 times a year; one of those being Sevin when I get tired of killing JBs by the soapy bucket full. I am going to try Heterorhabditis bacteriophora this year. Wish me luck. I do like our bees in our garden. This is a very healthy, hardy for our area, and beautiful plant. It is neither too large nor too small as goldilocks would say: "That is just right!" Yes. Lots of roses look their best here in autumn. I went for a drive around the neighborhood the other day and all the hybrid teas look amazing. I am having serous mildew issues this year, but it only seems to be the potted ones that are affected. Devoniensis and all the in ground roses are clean. I did some reading and apparently overhead watering prevents mildew from forming. The roses in the soil get sprayed by the reticulation system, so it seems to be true. I've started hosing down the leaves when I hand water and even after only a few days the mildew isn't so bad. Devoniensis doesn't seem to get BS here either. It's very healthy.
