4 months since I got some advice on what to plant here and how does my garden grow?

Angela is very pretty, intense colour. How large does that grow?

Dear Peplil,

I think the word is surprised.

The Angela tag says 1.2 m but I have a feeling that it could get taller here because it's such a grower. Towards the back of the gardenbed you can see the upright light green bush, the tallest of the lot already. I think it will need some hard pruning.

Cathedral City - should be a bright orangey red. You know,tho it starts out red, I wonder if it really is the WIlliam Shakespeare and I've mixed them up ...it ages into dark red, has that strong rosey smell to it (I can't walk past it without smelling it but it does take an enclosed space to pick up on it) and it certainly has that David Austin look. I just love this flower. If I have swapped them it'll take a while to know it as the other rose has moulted its leaves completely twice due to blackspot and is on its third run now - that sounds even more David Austin like in behaviour LOL. As far as I know Cathedral City doesn't have a scent. I wonder.

Thanks everyone, I'll try and answer all the questions! Blue, never has been a favorite color of mine... until now! I just love the blue gray colors - but not sure how they work with the rugs - that have no blue in at all. Front porch railing - yes, it was installed Friday! I'm excited about it - took 5 months to get! I posted an update on the front door thread. The SW Creme is in the big white color brochure. It is SW 7556 Creme, it really is such a pretty, soft color! The dining room table is 3 years old, I found it locally and ordered it online from Lexfurniture (saved a lot!!) It is by Lorts (http://www.lorts.com) and available with or without a plank top. Great, great, great suggestions!! I can hardly wait to start shopping, but I know taking my time is important! I need to decide on a mantel... we have been playing around a bit - but a week ago.. DH almost cut his thumb off on a table saw! He had surgery Friday to reattach all the nerves and the tendon, and he will be okay - but it is putting a halt to some of our restoration. homeagain, Coastal Cottage or English Cottage.. I'm not sure! I know I don't really want Shabby Chic, and I love coastal cottage, but I do find I'm drawn to English Cottage as well... a bit of design confusion! So, so much to think about - so glad I have all you helping me along the way!!!

Hello, sorry you have had probs with your plants, and I agree the terrarium did look lovely. I can see several problems however. One problem lies with the fact that some of the plants need different conditions, the Venus Fly Trap for instance. Also lack of light has made #1 & #5 very etiolated. As I don't grow many c&s (I concentrate on Crassulas aka Jades) I'm sure someone with greater knowledge will soon be here to help more ;) The spaghnum moss topping is a mistake as cacti need good drainage and if this was wet/moist it could have rotted the stems (ok for the Fly trap though) The Ph of the soil may be wrong as again Fly traps like an acidic soil and rain water with moist conditions and can even sit in a dish of water. Cacti/succs like fast draining soils and hate to sit in water or have moisture around them. The bowl also has no drainage holes despite a drainage layer at the bottom. It is such a shame when retailers sell collections of non compatible plants in the wrong type of container, but I guess it's just a ploy to get a sale. The individual plants would have been just fine if taken out and planted individually in their own specific mix and given the right conditions to thrive. Take lots of photos - it will be quite different next year, and will be lovely to look back on how it was. If it was me i would be widening those beds by another 40 cm and putting in a front row of something. (probably irises - LOL)

You can sorta see an attempt at a green border inside the petunias of a very vertical type of lavender (munstead) that hasn't really taken off. I would love to grow irises and crocuses but it is Brisbane and the saddest thing about the tropical weather here is not being able to grow either. I just love those cold weather flowers. I'm avoiding daylily type thingies that take over the garden. I do feel the roses are a little squished and the petunias are taking over so yes, even with a 2m by 5m gardenbed space is an issue...I'm wondering about a Dutch box hedge thingy, being slow growing I guess I could keep it tiny forever and green up the edges. To the right you can just see the start of the horseshoe garden bed, so all bets are off until I have that finished in time for the bare root order.
