That T.lindleyanum in the photo is 3 metres tall, not really suited to an aquarium. But the Lagenandra and Spathiphyllum would be okay. The C. johnstonii and E. amplissimum while they're still smaller would be okay but if conditions were really good they'd probably outgrow the tank too quickly. I remember somewhere on a forum someone mentioning that T. lindleyanum had been released into some canals or something in southern Florida and was growing wild. You'd just have to find out where and pay a visit. Mine seed a lot. Used to give the seedlings away but ran out of people. Not many people want them after they see the size of mine. Now I just compost the spent flowers before any seeds develop.

A related species Habenaria radiata (also a temperate bog orchid) is relatively more common in cultivation. Therefore it's easier to find and apply culture notes for radiata, and hope (not unreasonably) that it works for repens too. Google "Habenaria radiata" and other terms like "culture" or "care" or "media". I'd probably return it (or babies) to it's native environment when conditions improve next year. Any particular plants that you are interested in? You wouldn't happen to have Pinecone Ginger would you? I'm interested in the peach brumansia and the amaryllis. Also the red canna, the pink lily (#19), and some bromiliads. I have Blue Flag Iris, Giant Pennywort, Parrot Feather, Frogsbit, and maybe a Yellow Floating Heart (it might be small) If there is something else that you might be looking for just ask, I might still have it.

fleurkat- Heliconias and Gingers are different beasts. My first question to you would be has this heliconia bloomed on the shoot/stem that has the curling leaves? If the answer is Yes, then that stem is simply completing it's lifecycle. Heliconias only bloom once per stem/shoot. Once the bloom has faded (or been cut off), the stem that supported that inflorescence (and all of its leaves) will die back to the ground. If the plant is healthy, there will already be one or more new "eyes" growing from the rhizome. These eyes will emerge as the next season's growth. If the stem in question as not yet flowered, I would suspect that the soil may be too wet. Heliconias like to be moist but (most) cannot tolerate wet conditions. Make sure the soil is not soggy or standing in water. Also, you mention that it's in a "cool" spot. Just how cool? Most will not tolerate conditions below 50 degrees F. I also assume that this plant is in a container. What type of heliconia is it? Does it need to be re-potted? If it is dying back due to having flowered, now may be a good time to dump it out of the container and see if it's going to outgrow the container in the next season. Who knows, it may even be a good time to divide it! Hope this helps -Ray
