this lizard perches on top of the greenhouse roof outside my bathroom, and gives me no privacy. He/she also drives the dog mad.

I know the feeling Alison...
My mate Spikey the Bearded Dragon sat on the side boundry fence for hours this morning.
Watching me prune the bougainvillea. Then when I finished it went on its merry way..
I am amazed that you have them with a dog there lucky you, it must keep out of the dogs way.
What kind of lizard is it do you know its quite long fancy draging that tail around.
Cheers..MM.

If you have the money, schip cherry laurels are very good. I bought a 6 footer from Merrifield a couple of years ago. $200 as I remember. Unlike many other big evergreens--ie leland cypress--this one hasn't gotten much bigger than 8 feet. For my hedge, I bought 4 footers at $45 each, but have had to wait several years for them to hit 5-6 feet. They are growing in dry shade so the process is slow. You might be faster in full sun without having to compete with cherry roots.

If you have new(er) windows that are still under warranty you might void the warranty if you add window film to the glass. Make sure you check before buying or installing film. I use Hunter Douglas cellular shades with the bottom-up/top-down feature. They have different fabric choices ranging from sheer to opaque to room darkening. West facing shades in our FL climate need to be fully closed starting around 2 pm in the summer, for both heat control and stopping fading of wood floors and furniture. Our main family room sliders face east and our backyard/pond views, so we can keep those fully open all day. The orientation of the rooms and house make a big difference in how you need to cover the windows in individual rooms.

The non-permanent window films that stick on with water are really easy to apply and work well. All you do is clean the window well, then cut a piece of film about an inch larger than the window in both directions, then roll it up and start applying it from the top down. Use a spray bottle to wet the window. Leaving a half-inch overlap (to cut off when you're done) onto the frame, smooth the top edge across the full width of the window. Use a squeegee to smooth the film from the centre out to the sides. Work your way down to the bottom until the film is all smoothed. Use an exacto knife to cut off the excess around the frame, getting right into the crease so the glass is completely covered. We've had some up in the school where I worked for over a year and a half, and unless the students pick at it, it's still as good as the day it was installed. They did pick off a corner and I found it was fairly easy to pull off the damaged piece and install a new piece. If the windows are large, you will need someone to assist.

There are many varieties of conifers that are deer resistant and they come in all shapes and sizes. Junipers tend to be deer resistant, as well as many pines. You will also want to consider how fast they grow and the mature height. Many nurseries now state 10 yr size and NOT mature size. We had the same situation as you when we moved into our house. We wanted privacy but for it to look professionally landscaped. One of my favorites is Pinus nigra ‘Oregon Green’. We planted ours in a strategic location and it does a great job of creating the privacy we want, but we also have beds with native grasses and perennials around it, etc to provide intested and more privacy. The deer walk right past this conifer (and we have many in the yard now, mostly dwarf varieties). It is a beautiful conifer; another is Pinus leucodermis 'Kaleidoscope'. This Bosnian pine has lighter new growth. It is a smaller variety than the Pinus Nigra 'Oregon Green'. If you want to see interesting conifer varieties go to tinycones.com. Michael, the owner, is very knowledgeable and has a price list where you can see a large variety of conifer options. You can then look for one you want locally, as Mountain Meadows (tinycones.com) is in Weaverville, NC. They are still building the description of each conifer on their webpage, so some you need to copy, paste, and search for more info. I love the look of this design with conifers from finegardening. I am trying to replicate the weeping conifers to complete our front yard privacy area. Good luck

That's a cutie and it beats the frogs that eye us off in the shower. At least he wouldn't try to have a shower with you :) Even though I know the frogs are there, I still jump when a frog lands on my bare shoulder.

Well, it was me who was the Peeping Tom, or rather the Hearing Harry...but not for long, I assure you.
My next door neighbour's house was put length-ways on the block and because we're in a cul-de-sac, it meant that the entire back of his house overlooks my front yard. He has an ordinary high-set house which means the bathroom which should have been overlooking his back yard, now overlooks my front yard....get the idea??
Well, ages ago, I'm weeding and playing in the side garden which runs along our mutual fence.
I hear him get into the shower...here, I should explain that this man is showering probably about 10foot away from me with an open window right there. I can't see into it, thank god, because it's higher but I can hear every breath he takes.....
Everything was fine until the wife joined him!!!!!!
At that point, I left!!!!!!!!
