Cheating...but it was for a good cause!

I've always felt vaguely superior to those people who have to buy "instant" colour for their garden.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen......

I know it was cheating but I have my sister- and brother-in-law coming for a visit and the little garden in front of my front door looked really sad.

It's one of those who-knows-why trouble spots where everything I've tried just doesn't do well....and that's if they grow at all.

So, today, down to Bunnings, I went and I picked up 3 pots of "instant" colour......3 large-ish New Guinea Impatients.

Buffington, it made me furious and I don't even live there. It really is heartbreaking and just so shameful. I have heard people from all over the world, not just the US, are donating hair to this cause. I had emailed my Aveda salon as I told you guys and guess what? The salon owner personally emailed me and said they had already signed up and are waiting for the posters to come in so they can display them in their windows. This made me very happy. I am looking forward to doing my part. And I am not reading the BP case hearings in the papers because it's actually raising MY BP. Ugh.

How sad-I hope he is able to overcome-our old basset was too old for treatment, so we decided to let him just live as long as he's comfortable-three years later he's still going strong. The kids say its because of his diet. Before, because he's tooty, I was picky about the extra food he got, now he's on the 'deadman's diet', if he wants it, he gets it. HE LOVES IT! Anyway, I hope it works, ebay is a great idea! (and that dog is just too cute)

Here's my newly finished backsplash. We worked hard at this, making many different trial pictures using Sketch-Up. DH was not a fan of the random pattern but finally agreed to go along with it. When it first went up I felt ... a little anxious, but I am very pleased with how the whole kitchen came together. And I still love that blue tile.

I like it, nothing like a bit of colour to brighten up the garden..
And those NG ones are so different and big..

They look as though they have been there for ages.
Thank goodness there are garden shops that can help busy people like you when you need help.
I love the little roses in front of the impatiens, maybe they will all flower too now .

I really have to dig the whole lot out and start from scratch I think.
G*d! what a job to look forward to!
BTW, Marion, did that little water lily survive? I bet it did in your capable hands!

Annie, Picture me on my knees.

The little water lily was putting out a lovely leaf and I thought , here we go, all is well.

THEN...one morning early I caught the biggest , fattest, toad splotted right on top of it. GONE COMPLETELY.

the toad is now doing service as blood and bone in the garden.

Well done Annie. I don't consider it cheating at all. I prefer to grow things myself as well, but I will often spruce up a corner or two with potted colour for a special occasion. After all, you still had to plant them and now look after them.

If that was my place I would think a cat or dog used that space for a short cut or slept there.

No, Heather, it's not that.
So far, there has been in that space...Iceberg the rose, Shady Lady the rose, Malay Pink (or something) ixora, various petunias, some other stuff I can't remember and the last I tried was some lovely lemon and navy daisies.
I really thought I was onto a winner there because I thought nothing! could kill daisies.
If you look at the original photo you can still see the one remaining daisy after the other 2 laid down and passed away.
That daisy is now recovering nicely in a pot...far away from that nasty, evil, haunted? garden bed.
