More Ginger Flowers

Some more gingers, the 1st one I saw at the Buderim Ginger Factory, the next two are from my own garden.

I was there during the wet season and although it hardly rained the whole time I was there, it sure threatened to do so, every day.

The only time I saw some sunlight, was the morning I flew out. :-)

One of the many beaches, I'm afraid I can't remember the names of them all.

Part of the Gove golf course. Unfortuately as I was relying on my daughter fro transport and she doesn't quite understand my need to take photos, we drove on past without stopping. Shame really, as the greens seem to attract hundreds of Magpie Geese.

Such beautiful flowers Barbara and so many different colours.
Would you believe I don't even have one of those plants, one day maybe.
Love your landscapes yes I know that feeling I usually yell stop the car.
So if possible hubby does, most times he doesnt

The first ginger is a curcuma - I have one of those myself doing very well in Briz.

I have the same problem and I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to get the butterfly ginger to bloom. Mine are in the ground, get lots of water (gray water) and seem to be triving. They get some dappled morning and noon sun through the trees( but are basically in shade), and a straight shot of afternoon sun for 2-3 hours. The plants/stalks/leaves are about 3 feet high. Last year they didn't bloom, last winter they were hit by some cold weather and died back but are looking healthy this year. But as of today no sign of blooms. Would a flowering and blooming fertilizer help?

Thanks hemnancy. Pot? I don't have anything but a few succulents in pots. These have been in the ground for years. I have Hedychium gardnerianum on the east and west side of my house. Seems strange, but they don't get enough water on the west side, so they sunburn. They bloom better there though. That is the clump pictured. Here is a picture of my Hedychium 'Tara' sometime during the summer. They seem to suffer more from lack of water, and rich soil than gardnerianum. -Brian

Those gingers sure are beautiful.

One of my friends lived in Gove for many years, she loved the place and only left because of a messy divorce. The golf course certainly looks different to the ones around here. A few hazards with all those trees.

MM you are lucky, when out on drives with my husband the conversation goes thus:
me: Oh look at that, it wold make a great photo.
Bob: Yes it would too...and he keeps driving. :-)
GH. Gove is very different that is for sure. I'm not sure I would like to live there for a long time, but I will be going back, My daughter and her family will be there for about 5 years.
